You shouldn't cancel that the first time and it will force you to reboot the PC after which things should work fine.

If not, then you're having the same issue I had. Apparently Windows XP can't handle more than 10 USB device profiles in it's registry at once, so you might need to delete profiles you're not using. (Mind you simply plugging a USB device into a different USB port as the one you've used to install, might spawn a new USB profile filling up the registry with crap. Eventually this might be causing problems now.)

Search the 606 forum for the solution or check back here if you can't find it, it's relatively easy to manually remove USB profiles from the Windows registry and fixing your issue! :)

Nah, it should not reboot when installing P606, it should reboot when installing the SP-606 specific USB drivers. Windows needs them first and they are on your SP-606 CDs as well.

If installing those still doesn't make things work, you'll have the registry issue.

Take a look at this thread:
viewtopic.php?t=2125

Around half-way through Enossified posted what you will want to know about USB profiles.

Or if you're lazy like I am, here's the link directly to the article:

Cheers

i'm not familiar with p606 software so i can't help u there but as for the live issues u should be able too change your midi in n midi out settings through the preferences section of live. if that doesn't help i'd message jaylost on here, i think he works with live and a sp

This sounds a lot like the driver issue isn't solved quite yet. I'd look into the USB profile issue as written in the article I linked to.

P606 should always work and it's probably the best program to test if your SP is installed properly and being recognized, as it simply won't start as long as something's wrong.

If the midi driver doesn't work properly, you're not going to be able to use the SP in Live the way you want either. So unless reinstalling P606 suddenly makes it work, I'm thinking you're having the same USB issue I had. :)

try the unistall utility in roland's site and re-install the driver...
...also check at the sp606 menu that vender driver is on...

No, not really, I had and fixed the problem on two machines. Both times it turned out to be a matter of removing some of those USB registers.

You know, there's a risk by suggesting this, but I would try to remove some more USB registers and reinstall again.

How many USB registers did you count there? I had like 14 in total or so, so I had to remove about 5 for it to work.

I would suggest to find someone that has a little bit more knowledge of all this, but Windows should be able to install most USB devices when you connect them again. I'd pay attention not to remove USB profiles you don't know, but I would remove all of the SP-606 related profiles... after all, Windows thinks it's all fine and dandy installed, but it's not.

Good luck and hopefully you will get this solved. Again, the only way to get your SP working in your DAW with midi-over-usb (or midi to midi) and so on, is getting the driver to function properly.
