Hi there,

I'm still looking for a way to be able to get my SP-606 recognized as a MIDI device in Windows. Ultimately to get P606 to work, because that's what I'm really after.

So, I had ordered a MIDI to USB cable ( an E-MU Xmidi 1x1 ).

However it seems that P606 can't work with the MIDI out and MIDI in instead of the SP-606's USB connection. This sucks a bit, but now I'm trying to get the SP-606 to work in any software program I have, but it doesn't work.

I can't get it to work in for example Kinetic 2 or FL Studio 6 and so on though...

I've got everything installed and set the SP-606 to MIDI instead of USB for syncing, but I'm probably missing things I have to do in Kinetic 2? I already selected MIDI in and MIDI out in Kinetic 2, however nothing happens when I press [ ext] on my SP-606 and press buttons or pads.

What am I doing wrong here? What channels should I use?

dont know if this helps but this is how i use mines when recording to pro tools or playing reason/fl studio or recording into soundforge...

first make sure u downloaded ur drivers from rolands site instead of the disk cuz its crap coming from them..

next check midi functions by selecting (func)(midi util) buttons and changing sync source to usb. if u want to control kinetics that should be all that u change then back out and go to menu and select #4 usb audio.
ven driver= on
input switch= on
output src= input... note*if u use something like soundforge switch to mix so u can hear it thr the cpu as well*

that should be all u need to control kinetic if u want it to play a pattern while u cycle thru sounds go back to midi util and switch the sync mode to slave and that should do the trick.

in this mode i track out my patterns into protools for individual adjustment.

oh u shouldnt need that usb to midi cable as i do all of this via usb

Thanks for the advise.

I know it should work with a simple USB cable, but unfortunately the USB drivers don't seem to work on my main PC. I keep getting the annoying 'driver is installed but doesn't function properly' issue together with P606 that closes again because no SP-606 can be found.

i actually had that problem b4 too. when i called roland they said to just use the drivers from the site and reinstall the application. if u have asio drivers check to see if it recognizes the 606 as well. hope it works out for u soon man... it really pissed me off to the point where i gave up for two months!!

Yeah, well, the weird thing is, I know that the SP-606 and P606 work fine on my parents PC. It's so terribly annoying that it doesn't on my own PC here at my place.

I have several other devices that seem to use Asio drivers as well, I sure hope they aren't the cause for this as I need those devices installed and connected as well for recording.

I'll try the downloadable drivers.

There is a known problem with Windows supporting a maximum of 10 audio and MIDI drivers.

Read this article for more information.

Worth a shot!

Interesting information, thank you. I did hear that most people solved their problem by reinstalling Windows. That however isn't quite an option... :(

edit: Seems you are spot on here, my registry shows all 10 occupied. You may have found the solution. :)

Huge THANK YOU!!! Yes, it turned out it was exactly my problem and the solution was simple ; free up (aka delete) some registry entries as described on the site.

Wow, this really made my day, thanks! 8)

So, can anybody on here give me some tips on how to set up my SP 606 in order to sample from my turntable in the SP and route the chops into FL Studio, plus just getting the Sp to set in Fl has been hard, any advice on that, cause I d/led the drivers form the site and-nothing worked.Plus do i need to install that P606 as well in order for it to work?

You don't have to install P606... however it's a good way to find out if you can get the SP-606 to be recognized in Windows.

If your SP-606 doesn't work in P606, then it's not going to work in FL Studio either.

Getting the SP606 to work comes down to installing the drivers. If after restarting and so on it still won't work, then it's probably a case of too much USB device drivers installed. Windows apparently can only handle about 11 devices at the same time, however connecting a device can sometimes 'add another device'.... blame Windows, but in my case I had to edit the Windows registry... delete unused and double USB driver entries and reinstall the drivers again.

Eventually it did work out alright, so let me know how it goes. (By the way the 'remove all drivers tool' from Roland did NOT work in my case, probably because I have two Windows versions installed.).

It's probably me, but what do you need FL Studio for?
