I got an SM57, a CAD Trion 7000 and a hacked CAD kbm412 and I use a ART PRO MPA II with swapped tubes as my mic pre.

I get a nice dark sound from them with a slight roll off in the top end... works really good with lo-fi production. My vox sit pretty nice int his setup

The SP-202 sound definitely cannot be replicated. It's a fucking, filthy, magic box..

Working on it solely takes a lot of creativity but can give you very pleasing results.

I got it MIDI'd up to my controller and routed into my DAW. I absolutely love working this way.

The most important thing to remember is make the music YOU like.

Don't make music for anybody else except you. And you just started this shit, people are going to be able to tell you have very little experience at the craft. It takes time! You have to work at it.

same tascam i have. just got it. Nice to have so many ins and outs finally. never know when your going to be able to plug a bunch of shit in. A mpc 1000 is 6 right there.

I think it's a multitude of factors.

Using your eyes to make music affects decisions, there is no way around it. But I don't think it actually affects the "soul" of music because the end user still makes the decision. If you are aware of your tendencies and you experiment....you can get any sound ...
