Can the sp 202 lo fi sounds be achieved on the 404?

Post by celsus »

Ive been thinking of getting another sampler here for a while. I have an sp 404 og, and was looking at either a 202 or an mpc 2000xl. I was wondering if i can get that sp 202 sound on the 404, and just get the 2000xl instead. convince me

The 2000XL is a vastly superior machine. The 202 is severely limited IMO. It is small and can run on batteries but as far as 'that sound" I think it is overrated. Not being able to resample, the card limitations, etc. -really apples to oranges. I have a 202 but I have not used it hardly. I find the 404SX, 555, and 505 to be so much more feature rich and I just don't have the attraction to the 202 "sound" that other folks do.
Hope that helps in some way-

sp202 X sp404 = pure dope

in this equation you can replace the 404 with mpc for pure dope, however while the mpc offers more robust chopping and sequencing functions the 404 effects processing is beast

I will have to make a chain in my studio that starts with the 202 or uses it on an aux on my mixer with 404SX/505/555 etc. later in the chain. Thx.

Thanks for the help you guys I think im going to get the mpc for now. do you think it would pair well with the 404, like do all the drums/chopping on the mpc then use the 404 for its effects?

202 can't be imitated, it's all in the chips my brother.

MPCs are the best for hardware sequencing in my opinion.

MPC + SP combo is killer! 8) That's what I currently use.

The SP-202 sound definitely cannot be replicated. It's a fucking, filthy, magic box..

Working on it solely takes a lot of creativity but can give you very pleasing results.

I got it MIDI'd up to my controller and routed into my DAW. I absolutely love working this way.
