OK, so if your sampling from pad-to-pad on an SP808 try this.

1. Press SAMPLING button once.

2. Scroll down to Fx Loc. and make sure it says INS MASTER

3. Now exit this screen and select your effects. Play your sample and tweak the fx until your happy with the sound.

4. Press SAMPLING again ...

I use a Korg D1200mkII which can record 4 mono/2 stereo tracks simultaneously. I used to do a lot of overdubbing and bouncing down but now I have more gear and a decent mixer I usually record all the music on one stereo pair and all the effects on the other in one take. Then I record vox/guitars/sfx ...

Yes, there is creative use of microphones for free processing.

I've heard of, but not tried...
Swinging the mic around for a phasey rotary speaker effect
Putting it in tubs, cans etc.
Right in a corner.
Muffling with tissue, cloth etc.
Putting it in a condom and immersing in a bucket of water ...

Starting off with a great idea in mind, switching on the machines, gettin down to business and coming up with something completely different which I then work on for ages before deciding that its shit and I've forgotten my first idea.
