Re: Drums for a band

Provided the SP samples are already imported on your flash card - they don't have any load time and 404SX can have a LOT of samples on the SD card. I think the sequence programming is similar to MPC though but as long as you are practised and don't make many mistakes it can be very quick to record a ...

Re: Receive Midi Volume for SP 404 SX

Have to say, I don't think it can work.

The way the 404 sequencer works is single track polyphonic - you can't have notes in separate tracks with their own volume fader and the 404 doesn't have external midi controls to it's pad settings where you might have controlled each pads level setting ...

Re: 404 with midi keyboard--help?

Hi, changing banks only switches the 404's own pads to play the new bank - not external midi when every midi note plays a particular sample no matter what bank you select on the 404.
Download the 404 manual and you'll see the midi note assignments are fixed one note per sample "pad" spread over 2 ...

Re: 24bit wav intern conversion in sx..!!??

I don't have the SX so can't say if it's expected of it. The OG 404 I have is only billed as allowing 16bit files and I've never tried importing 24bit. That said, converting to 16bit from 24 is easily done (just ignore the 8 smallest bits!) and add dither noise (which the dsp that does the mixing ...

Re: Sampled Item ...

Hi

Not sure how you want to trigger the sample.
Is it by midi note or sequencer start/stop?

The "loop" sample you have won't loop from an external device unless either...

A - The midi note is repeating at a suitable interval from a sequencer (or manually from a midi keyboard) and the 404 pad is ...

Re: sequence 404 without 404's sequencer?

Unless the EX is different from the OG 404, all banks should play from midi given you can send the required midi notes as per the manual (my OG does) Maybe the sequencer has a fixed range and transposes it's own sounds to get higher or lower notes or maybe you just need to transpose the sequencers ...

Re: hacking the 404 OS

Yes, I would expect a checksum error if you change the binary. That would be a value in the header of the update file that is calculated from some method of summing ALL the o/s data in the update file. It would be nice if the check was done before flashing it into the o/s memory, but it wouldn't be ...

Re: my imported wavs sound slow when i play them through the 404

Hi,
The 404 doesn't have a known bug that does that.

It may be a classic case of sample-rate mismatch, probably between 48Khz and 44.1Khz. The 404 only plays 44.1. It's even possible you have been working on 44.1 audio all along when producing your songs but the system you did it on was actually ...

Re: Batteries not working...?

Maybe the battery contacts can go bad, especially if there's been a battery leak.
Another possibility is the external power socket - it has a switch built in that disconnects the battery when the plug's in, so that switch could be faulty.

Re: sequencer as a multitrack

A clever bit of lateral thinking!

I'd hate to have to delete the odd bad hit in the sequencer, but if you record it all into a DAW later, you can just cut your mistakes out of the jam.

Cheers

Re: Any tips to produce techno/minimal sound on 404 ??

By static, I meant fixed in the new sample - no matter how much movement was done in the making of it - it's the same movement every time the new sample is heard. It's a matter of taste how much repetition there is in your sounds, but I want to put enough variation down so when I edit the track I ...

Re: Any tips to produce techno/minimal sound on 404 ??

I think fx resampled isn't interesting enough, because the movement in the FX is static in the resample. For minimalist, static can become tiring to listen to.
I don't think the EMX pcm percussion is so bad, much of it classic techno and it's 3 FX engines can bring some unpredictable life especially ...

Re: SP404 CHAIN

A mixer with an extra stereo bus can help make a stereo fx (or sampler) send. The extra bus might be called Alt or Sub. You should be able to switch any mixer channel to the Alt bus instead of the normal Main. So the Alt bus sends signal to the FX for just the channels you want to Effect (or sample ...

Re: SP404 CHAIN

There's a few easy mistakes to make with midi hookups.

Careful with midi chains, especially if something has no dedicated midi thru port because it will probably have the thru combined with the midi output port. This causes midi feedback when the controlling sequencer gets it's outputs routed back ...
