he he he...

It is possible that the sensor is worn. There also could be some FUNK in there. Take the think apart and peep the MUNG that is holding you up.

it's not possible to change a single pad...

the sensor isnt the problem for sure, it's just the fucking rubber that's shredded (?) round the pad... think it#s nearly impossible to get a new pad mat for the OG 404 these days... seems like it's time for a SX Antee... that pad material is a bit better...

Buy a midi pad device, or just don't beat on them so hard.

 How about SX pads in an og 404?!

...since it's mainly the pads goin down, og 404 users could get a SX mat and cut it right above line 'pad1-hold'... just replace it with the old part of the mat and done...
you could hot glue it or use some silicon but i don't think thats necessary... sure you could use the whole sx mat, but i think thats too confusing... might work for ebay though.

i got mine from a roland dealer... i would contact roland, so they can tell you an authorized dealer in your area, maybe they still have old ones under the desk as well... i'd say go for it, the back of the mat is already a bit perforated at the right position; makes a clean cut easy...

i'd love to see the result. :)

i took my 404 apart this morning and cleaned it out with duster, there was some grime on the sensor and rubber , then i put it back together and all the pads work even better. !

^ yup!

The 'sensor' is just 2 bits of metal (and when u push a pad down, the carbon bits on the bottom of it connect the 2 bits of metal, causing the trigger)...

so fixing pad problems should 99% of the time be nothing more than a case of cleaning

lucky dude... my shit wasn't dirty at all... the material was dry and brittle so the pads broke out of the mat. I'm quite convinced that there are 2 series of mats for the 404, cause the one I have now + the 404 I bought a year ago def feeling different from the "oct 05" model...

I just ordered a SX mat and I'm going to put it into my old 404 (at least the pad section). I've cut my old mat into 2 piece to try stuff out, and yo hot glue is my friend... not for sniffin though.

There do seem to be 2 different 404 pads..

I have a 'new' normal 404 - the pads feel different to the original ones, and also the body/case of the latest 404s is shaped like the 404SX - not as tall and with less of a sloping face than the original 404s, and with shorter knobs (less likely to break off in my bag)
