what im wondering is how could i do what he did with my 555. like is it even possible to create that kind of sound with the 555 and foot pedals.

Not exactly, as the 555 hasn't got chromatic tuning of samples, and the workaround is really not worth the effort. However the 505 can be used in this way.

Here's the video. It's really interesting, as he is using the MPC for what the first samplers (ie Fairlight CMI) were designed for, which is loading a waveform and using is as the source for a synthesizer, instead of an oscillator (not all sampling is about chopping and laying drums ). Which by the way uses almost no memory. That's why old samplers seem so limited to us nowadays, but were thoroughly used in the past.

Yeah, using speed up samples, slowing them back down when using them to save memory, that must have been crazy times when it comes to working around the limitations.
