Wax Inspektor wrote:^ Nope...

The SX runs 4hours on alkaline batteries (450mA) / the old 404=6h (300mA)

that sucks but it also explains that the adittions they added take up more power...
One thing I don't understand is why they removed the internal memory?
I always used A+B to transfer samples between different cards (without a computer...) :|

because it should be easier/quicker to make backups on the SD rather than compact flash

and you arent really limited by space with up to 32 gigs

still though we will need more info and a hands on demo at guitar center or something before we can judge completely

we should all email roland tell them to make more videos!!!!!!!1!

@vinyl sim

you dont need that within a millisecond like you would dj/fx looper i think it was a smart move

good points man...

the 32 gigs thing is cool but ive never really needed the storage so i dont really have an opinion on that but 32 gigs is a lot to keep sorted/straight on a device with no browser or screen to see the info (mpc/esx etc)... gimme 32 gigs on my esx and im in bonerville

This will go well with my 303 and a dj mixer. They should have released a 303sx with real pitch along with the new features of the 404sx FTW. The look is ill, I just hope they went with pads that are similar to the 303 or the 404's sub pad.

i see absolutely no reason to get rid of internal memory.

RECALL!!!!
please please PLEASE someone tell me why you would trade the ability to manage and interchange samples from multiple cards without a computer for 32 GIGS(!) of space on 1 card!!! it's a sampler, not a frickin ipod!! if there is some logic to this i need to know cuz the idea has me unsure if i possess any common sense whatsoever. if i were to discover this on my own upon purchasing i'd take it back. banks A and B are VITAL to my workflow when i'm organizing my damn card! i do love the orange lights, however. alot.

also i'm more of the programming type, i don't play live gigs. i can see how a more live-oriented person would want djfx on speed dial... but then again i use djfx even more than vinyl sim and don't have a problem grabbing it.... even if it is the last on the list. but none of these things are as important as TRUE PITCH   gee whiz man!!!

ok i'm through bitching til i see some more videos.

whats the "auto trig level"? (pad 4 function) is that mono triggering?

i'm not going to hate on it....they don't make them for us beat heads, they make them more for the techno/dj heads. and put more into the mv's for beats. so i think we will always have to make due with what they give us. that is why we are on this sp forums anyways right? SP is just suppose to be limited in ways or then it would be to easy and we might as well just use a computer/mpc or some keyboard. much love to the sp head on here. one

...that's the truth....
the only SP able to do a sort of pitch function is the sp-505; maybe the sp-202 do something like old school pitch too.
but for the rest...
...roland have fear of pitch... :)
anyway 385€ is not expnsive for a new sampler like the sp-404sx.
i don't know if people are ready to spend this sum for new few features or to buy a used sp-404 (i sold mine at 190€)...

 there's a fuckin typo on the faceplate too, "BIT CRaSH"!

also, Googling "sp404sx" brings this very thread up as the first hit...there's some good publicity for ya Roland, a bunch of dedicated SP users disappointed at your missed opportunity

ok - real talk - if my SP-404 burnt out tomorrow, I would replace it with this. simply due to the impossibility of finding 1gig CF cards. Pattern Copy was never an issue for me, the FlyLo trick wasn't exactly brain surgery, this new 'official' method will probably only shave one or two elements off it.

but, 32 gigs of space on a card, and we only have the same number of banks and pads? shit guys, maybe squeezing an extra 4 pads would require extra design etc, but surely adding extra banks would be simple?

The computer editor is nothing new - it really should have been a free add-on for existing SP-404 users, like Mike Acosta said it would be when he researched the shit on these very forums. the 'shuffle' feature in sequencer, again something upgradable via firmware and should be available to existing users, not as a feature for a new model.

i'm skeptical about the 'sound improvement'. i'm sure some FX will sound slightly different, but that doesn't mean better.

so yeah, it's an upgrade mainly with features we should've had in a firmware years ago. upgraded mainly so that Roland could continue to make cash off a product they designed years ago and have no doubt already recouped R&D costs on, but can no longer sell because of CF card restrictions...enter the SD card. does this warrant a fucking viral marketing campaign? a countdown of days until release? i don't think so

i really like this. for starters the resample will be much more accurate. i mean it records in 16 bit linear. that's great sound quality for 400 bones. i checked the specs on the japanese sight and it doubles the number of recordable notes for the patterns ( or really it combines the previous ones which was 8,000 internal, 8,000 card up to 16,000 flat out).

this is not what i was expecting (tbh i was expecting nothing), they took a pretty good, high selling product and made it better. actually that's damn smart. you know how we're always beta testers for a new product that gets abandoned. not this time.

and don't forget, we are the innovators! it has back up, HELLO! on the 404 we could only back-up A/B; one local beer says now we can back the ten banks, up to twelve times: so that would make 120*12! oh shit, you do the math. mpc's only got 64 pads at a time on their programs. now we get 12 programs with almost double the pads. maybe i'm just wrong. but hey i'll buy ya beer anyway, unless i'm broke, and in that case can we smoke your herb

I think that is the threshold for incoming samples. As in how loud does the incoming sample have to be to trigger recording.

consider this...
if the 404 had the 505 pitch shifting and at a low estimate has a draw of 800mA (from the 505 manual)of power 6 batteries

that means you are looking at 3 hour battery life...tops

add in resampling and all that and you are going to drop that considerably

maybe 2 hours. then that means buying new batteries every time you want to go wireless for a session somewhere.

engineering problems > public demand. its a sad truth, but they have to meet certain guidelines before they start getting things like v-synth in there

keep in mind that even the kp3 has less than great pitch shifting, UNLESS you alter the actual speed of the sample. the only way you could have that effect is which an entirely different processing method, which would be included in space the 404 doesn't have.

roland isn't trying to screw you guys over, any company making products like these does the best they can within the limitations....it just so happens that the engineering limitations with a box the size of the 404 are HUGE
