I know there are alot of you that have what it takes...cause I listen to alot of your tracks(eventhough I don´t comment them all)

I just published a few of my own on: http://www.feiyr.com/c/en/

It cost me 20€: 9,90 for registration and 9,90 for an albumcover

Now my trax can be bought on i-tunes, musicload(a big german download company), AOL, Napster and so on.

I mean we spend alot of time doing our "thingamajig" and spend "alot" money on equipment so why not let a broader community listen to your sounds and earn a few bucks.

love, peace and may techno save your soul

whats the deal with them?

Like do they take % from sales?

how about rights to your music, are you signing anything over to them?

the deal is that DAD (DANCE ALL DAY) gets 20% and you get 80
You are ur own label and you have all the rights. You have an ISRC ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internatio ... rding_Code ) on every track so no one can claim that track other than you

thanks for looking out man.

i have been thinking heavily on placing my best tracks in the perfect order so i can send some demo/mixes out. I need to find a weirder label that has some sway on http://www.beatport.com

unfortunately you can be an absolute shit producer, but as long as you know that one guy......you could be the "next big thing"
the whole "its not what you know, its who you know" needs to change. mastering and ass-kissing goes a long way.

so i can see why you would want your own label. :D

it's a reality that you need to have your own label in electronic music if you want to earn any sort of money from it. even some of the better and eccentric labels out there have sub-par artists on them. you have to remember that lots of these things are just like an expanded version of a social club. wheter it comes about from touring with similar people, being involved in the same scene or just living in close proximity to one another, all of these have a huge factor on getting signed, more-so than the quality of your music.

there is very little music that is actually innovative, thought provoking and ground breaking. usually when i hear experimental music that's just what it is, experimental. the problem is that it's usually experimentation without clarity. there is a whole lot of music out there that should have been left in demo form.

creating music has gotten a hell of a lot easier nowadays, so many people don't know a thing about music theory and they can still create music, and that's a good thing. it's breaking down the elitism that comes with every artform. the issue now is that there are a lot of lazy people out there who want to put minimal effort into making good music. go to any music production forum and there are countless questions related to getting the software to work correctly. obviously the internet is a place to learn but a lot of people just want things handed to them. these sort of people go out and usually produce sub-standard copycat music. even though there are still people out there dedicated to creating good music that is innovative and creative, what is popular and digestible (even in an underground scene) is determined by the masses.

so basically if you want to "make it" in music you have 2 choices;
either start your own label or sign to a friends label (because an established label is never going to sort you out ever) and then grind your ass off.

or you can work really really hard and put time and effort into creating good music that is actually amazing. the thing with truly great music is that it rises so far above the shit that it is actually noticeable.

in a perfect world the truly great music rises to the top...but nowadays it gets squashed out unless you perform nonstop or are a socialite schmoozer. Im pretty sure that there is the greatest music in the world out there somewhere, that we will never hear because they either don't feel like sharing, or don't have the social skills to slut themselves out.

Aphex twin created a secret moniker to see if he could get famous twice "The Tuss" is actually him . Although it somewhat worked, it still didn't reach the status of Aphex Twin, because people would largely think that it was just an aphex twin rip-off

There's nothing really in place for electronic music besides DJ bullshit. right now they are the "middle men" make or breaking a lot of music and to quote DeadMau5 "i hope they go the way of the fucking dinosaur". And if its not DJ bullshit its rock clubs that would sooner close down before letting an ableton live set be performed, at least here in the new england/boston area.

but then again you have the Wu-tangs and Animal collectives that came up with a group of people instead of trying to make it on their own, but even animal collective came up in the conventional rock band manner before getting their solo stuff noticed

Maybe you should move to Portland. There's a lot of different cities with different musical cultures in the US. I think if you're doing experimental electronic music and want to make it, you basically need to live in LA, the Northwest, Brooklyn, Detroit, or overseas in London or Berlin. But unfortunately even some of the guys that are doing really crazy stuff aren't really "making it" persay. They maybe have enough money to pay rent and tour, but they don't have any real net worth or whatever. Anyways.

On Animal Collective, it is really interesting - they become more pop oriented, and from that became way more popular, and are truly "making it." At the same time, I think a lot of people in the underground music industry (including them) have money backing them from trust funds or parents. I've noticed that a lot of really great music that is experimental or out there is made or funded by upper middle class or wealthy kids who sort of slum it. So make friends with cool rich kids! That's a good thing about LA - a lot of the kids that are into the underground music there have a lot of money, but you can never really tell until they take you to their parent's mansion.

It's hard to move and whatnot though, and making it in anything nowadays is difficult.

Don't take this the wrong way, but you might want to put your music out under a name different from Hurling Dervish. It might have the wrong connotations - "Puking Sufi," haha. It probably has more of a personal meaning to you though. Anyways, please don't be offended by it. I like your music so much!

This is how you can put your songs online quick and easy:
Step 1: Add a label u name it, for example SP Records
Step 2: Add an artist example: Sarge SP
Step 3: Add a song ur song or songs if u want to upload an album
Step 4: Add a bundle is an album or EP, I just did a Maxi Single with 2 tracks

To everyone who's doing this:

Remember to take care of copyright issues and shit first. Either chop them samples up until they're beyond recognition or contact the original artist asking for permission to use a sample.

Legal issues
Sampling has been an area of contention from a legal perspective. Early sampling artists simply used portions of other artists' recordings, without permission; once rap and other music incorporating samples began to make significant money, the original artists began to take legal action, claiming copyright infringement. Some sampling artists fought back, claiming their samples were fair use (a legal doctrine in the USA that is not universal). International sampling is governed by agreements such as the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works and the WIPO Copyright and Performances and Phonograms Treaties Implementation Act.
