Haha...maaan, im not against of sidechaining. And i played drums for 10 years, not anymore..sometimes, i dont have drums anymore. I play little guitar too...my music background comes from acoustic instruments and playin in band/bands.

Im just sayin that theres another ways too to get that bump and breath...and oh yeah, i studied (by myself) mixing and mastering. I do all mixing and mastering by myself.

U really think engineer/mixer/mastering engineer adds sidechaining to madlibs tracks? Seriously? And dillas?

If so..im stupid...but i dont think that lib or late dilla really didnt want anybody to mess up their sound that much...

I didnt ment any "battle" with this. And im not against to sidechaining...i think that people do too large number with that....

With drums...one word...compressor.

I just said theres another ways.

I didnt ment that im anyways better or superior...no no no, not at all.

Of course i say those things to prove my point (about what i know and my experience). But i didnt ment it to be like "im better" or anything like that, i just feel that people are too technical with music nowadays...like i was.

Anyway, im not gonna post to this sidechain thread anymore. Sorry.

I feel kind a bad...didnt ment to hurt anybodys feelings.

Im not against "computer" music. Im just against that people dont care about essence anymore, they dont respect roots...thay speak like music is programming..u know?

Computers are great for some things, but computer is always computer. Software sound is different than hardware sound.

If i wanna do electro...i would do it with computer.

But this is offtopic. Let our music breath and live! :D

pretty much it does come down to that. i would agree that computers are definitely more for electro, and not good for hip hop at all. i cant remember any hip hop guy making shit on a computer that isnt timbaland or jeezy styled bullshit.

i kept away from computer from october 2008 to return to hardware. but this sidechain thing is cool, i admit. and it make me rediscover an analog thing: the joe meek 3q beast that i had abandoned and i used only for mics...
i feel that maybe the best thing is to take what we like of both world (digital/analog) and try to combine together that. sometimes it works and sometimes no, but at laeast we had tried...
peace boyz

sidechaining isn't a computer thing..

alot of hardware compressors have separate trigger inputs & signal inputs.

It aint what you use its how you use it...

dangermouse and flylo are proof that plenty of cool stuff can be done on computers..
And thats coming from someone who only uses a microkorg and 303....
and audacity to record but everything created on hardware

Off board hardware compressors are the right way to go for both recording and live sound, but you will notice that the ~$100 compressors are typically single channel 19" rack mount units.

It's probably either:

alesis nanocomp

or

FMR Audio RNC or RNLA

Although the FMR gear can't be had for $100,
it is mad cheap, and apparently sounds amazing.

*edit*

yeah it says in the comment. . FMR RNC. . they are not $100 tho .. more like $200-250 or something

yeah it's the FMR RNC. from what i found it looks like they can be found for around $175 new and he was mentioning that they can be found for around $100 used. which for a piece of gear that costs 175 new seems like a realistic second hand price. man if i wasn't trying to save up cash to move and go to school i would be on the hunt for one of those right now!

i checked out this side chain stuff,

its not really the sound im looking for ,

i can get fat sound with a master compressor ,

and use deeper bass then kicks so they dont clash,

but im always learnign so this is pretty cool.
