Hello

Newbie here. Just got my 404 in the post today, very exciting! Been playing around with it all day.

One thing that I assumed it could do is to be able to overdub samples.

i.e: I have a vocal loop on pad 1 and I want to record a harmony over the top into pad 2, but I can't because when you record a sample you can't listen back to another one!

Does this make sense? Have I got this right? Or is there a way I can do this?

your help would be much appreciated!

thanks, hugo

it wont record like that, you should grab another 404 or a little boss recorder.

with another 404 you will be able to play the loop, and play live thru that 404 while the other one records it. I bounce around shit on tapes so im use to it.
but i know what your saying. the sp 505 can be used as a multi track. you can play a pad and record something live EXT source to a pad. 404 you can only resample pads live with no ext source.

Is this because you are trying to record and not resample?

should (?) be able to combine the two samples in-box through resampling - NOT recording.

1) start yr resample recording by pressing pad1 - then press yr ext pad and sing through that source.

If that doesn't work -

2) record your harmony as a separate sample on pad 2 -

then resample 1 and 2 together to 3.

this won't work if you are trying to resample patterns - only samples.

I haven't any experience with the inhouse mic or using mics through the mic jack - 1) may not work if thats what yr doing.

for 1) to work - may need to send your mic not thru the mic jack but through a mixer to the ext source to enable that pad.

The thing is bishojo, by the sound of it, what you are describing still doesn't allow for multitracking does it? I mean being able to listen to one sample at the same time as recording another.

It shouldnt make a difference whether i'm using the mic input, built in mic or line inputs, surely?

Anyway, looks like i'll just have to get a second sp. I saw a sp202 on the market the other day, I know its very limited, but on a budget it could do the job pretty well i reacon!

the 404 is a one track sequencer. You can't overdub the sample. You can only make patterns and dub those.

I never said it was a multi-tracker - what i described was a workaround to achieve the result of one sample layered over another and combined to form a different sample.

cheers
