Dual SPs ?
Ok so the question I'm about to ask has probably been asked a million times but I'm too lazy to search thru posts...
I have a 606... I love it to death... but the polyphony is a piece of shit (8 voices)...
So I'm thinking....if I add an sp404 (12 voices) to my setup.... Does that mean I get 20 voices using the 606 as a master and the 404 as a slave? Or is it more complicated than that? I just need that answered plz. Your help is appreciated!

it sure does, sounds like a sick set-up
check the 404 forum for the dual SP threads, they are both recent
Polyphony is the maximum number of notes that can be played simultaneously (e.g. on the 404, you can have 12 mono samples all trigger at the same time at the start of a bar, if you want).
Poly = many
Phonic = pertaining to sound
Click here, then click "Polyphony (instrument)" at the top for more info

as far as exchanging samples between sp's i know the 404 cards dont work with the 555 because i wanted to give my friend some samples to mess with in a jam but it wouldn't let him use the card until he reformatted it.
so youll need to convert it on your pc or record the output.
the only person i know who uses 2 sp's is panda bear.

On a single device, it shouldn't be a problem because they'd all be triggered at the same time.
On multiple devices, so long as you have them synched to the clock of one device it shouldn't be an issue (e.g. MIDI OUT from MPC1000 to MIDI IN on the 404 would prevent drift because they'd be working at the same tempo).
When making a track at 85bpm on the MPC, for example, even though you might notice the tempo shift a little on the 404's display (maybe by 1-2bpm), it would still stay in time because the MPC's sequencer is controlling it.
That's my understanding of it anyway, and it's why I'm planning to sync two samplers and a synth to my RM1X - so everything stays nice and tight.

1. polyphony can NOT be changed. 2. YO ig9, the reason that you only get four (actually, i thought it was three) voices when resampling is cuz roland said so, lame but whatever. 3. lot's of people use two sp's. 4. I've made songs that had patterns sync'ed via the 404's internal pattern sequencer; this is really good for making do with limited polyphony, but you need to cut the loops short and have them as one shots; you'll need to quantize. it is do-able but takes work.
oh shit edit; 5. the 303 and 505 can read cards from either (at least the pads, don't know about patterns). which is another lame for roland that they didn7t make the 404 and 555 compatible.
