if a 'mixing' board is a mixer.
but a dj mixer is AKA mixer.
doesn't that seem redundant? maybe we should call a dj mixer a blender, or a fader. or maybe; what's a syn. for 'mixing' board? anyway,
still wonderin what is fav. mixing boards(i.e. tapco blend6) for those who do use them?
-and- for those who don't 1.]would u prefer no mixer?
2.] how do u mixdown; is it all in the 404(then recorded to what to get final copy?) or do u use MD, direct to comp., etc...
3.] 4track(BR series) vs. mixer to pc; who enjoys what?

i'm using a yamaha - its a small 12 channel guy - no in-built effects. i like it quite a bit. very simple, but clean. the fx bus is straightforward, and i find it to not colour the sound too much, which unless yr rockin' a mackie, is sort of what ya want.
the only drawback on the one i'm using is that it uses knobs rather than faders on the channel strips. but i have gotten used to that. so i could recommend the yamaha as a budget mixer.

I got a vestax Samurai PMC-06D.. I love that friggin thing. I only run my tables thru it. Im planing on picking up one of those Xenyx mixers. Preferably one with a few buses. Ne way, I do all my mixing within in the 404. I find its FX and sound to be all I need. Then I record the stereo out into Live on my ibook and master the 2 track.
