Recording/Exporting a Pattern

My First Question (now I have a fully functioning memory card).

I know how to export specific samples to .WAV/.AIF, but is there any way you can export whole patterns so I can then put them into a sequencer?

How do you guys normally go about recording? Sequence it all on the 404 then just record the whole track?

Ah yeah the first steps... :wink:

So yeah you can "save" a pattern which means you can make a backup of it.
press pattern select so that the light is on
hold down cancel and press one of your CF sample banks (C-J)
-> SAV
select your pattern, which you want to save and press rec... *done*

To load your pattern make sure pattern select is "on" and hold down cancel and press bank A or B. -> LOD / select your pattern and press rec to load... You can save up to 12 patterns or samples...

Recording:
I record most of my tracks directly outta the machine / battle style

but you can do a lot more mixing stuff if you would track out every single element of your beat. You can use the isolator or the subsonic effect to mute certain elements.

two things that the 404 cannot do are 'export' a pattern or record a pattern as a sample(i think the 555 can do this). these two things seem to be quite annoying to some.

i don't know if your familiar with midi dump to sequencer, but that is what most old drum machines could do in lieu of having memory but actually this way you could save patterns and tweak them in the sequencer but i've never heard of any one that knows of a secret way to do this with 404 patterns.

Thanks for your help guys, started sequencing on the 404 and getting to grips with it now. Will eventually record it live into my PC/Mac and mix it there.

Again, I love this machine- my creativity has been well and truly resurrected.

Damn right- it just makes concepts so easy to record and realise, without having to mess around with overcomplicated sequencers. Love it.
