Hey what's up everybody. I've come across something interesting with the djfx looper (fx24 i think, don't have my 404 in front of me)and i was wondering if anyone else is doing this, and if so, have they succeeded in tuning their samples musically.

say i have a piano note sampled. i hit fx24 and turn the 3rd knob hard left (off). i hit the pad and almost simultaneously turn the knob back to on. now i have a short loop of the sample going, short and fast. i think first i turned the tempo down to 40(should've said that first), and i think it made the 'chop' that my djfx was holding a bit longer. from there i was able to pitchshift the sound with knob 2 down a bit with the knob setting between hard right and middle. it provided me with a short loop(unfortunately not the entire sample) and i was able to resample it on the fly by holding the og pad and quickly letting go and hitting it again, does this make sense? it only takes a short bit and pitches it down, but smoothly with no timestretching. has anyone been able to tune their samples down chromattically? ideally i would like to do this and be able to catch more of my sample... if i could get the entire thing, i suppose in a sense it would be true pitchshifting... ???

I tried this method and it seems better then just using Edit TIME/BPM with Ctrl 1 for time stretch.. The time stretch is cleaner sounding without the clicky noise that TIME/BPM and Ctrl 1 put out.. If your having trouble capturing the whole sample with this method I would just chop up my loop into two or more pieces and resample using the same method you described here then you have a chopped up sample and cleaner time stretch without the clicky annoying noise that the TIME/BPM and Ctrl 1 knob give you. Just my thoughts.. but, I'm not sure what your trying to do....

I wish I knew what you're explaining, but it sounds cool.

i wish i was able to post an example of what i'm trying to do... it's an interesting effect but i might just end up using it to detune kicks and snares mostly... i suppose i could send it into protools and pitchshift it there, but somehow i find using only the 404 and my turntable more rewarding

I know what hes talking about. u can use the looper effect to create an ever playing loop and resample it at different pitches using the same effect.

Thanks, a lot of people give me good feedback on that beat. Check Dj Frantic's music out, his beats inspired me to step my game up. Now there are so many talented people here it's hard to stay on par.
