Freedom.
brah thanks for this info that shit was unknown to me.!! wish it worked on other file types too
it opens up alot of sounds\removing those sega drums.plus that player can change pitch better than sp

This is a stupid rule which in no way enhances the quality of the music/sound and only restricts the creative process.

I was excited for this competition but after reading this I guess I'm out.

I look forward to hearing everyone else's releases.

r4ph431 brother, no need to be so abrupt about it brother, these were merely suggested rules, as I said I put them up to allow everyone to discuss them. I just added that rule as I was going off the title of the beat tape "Video game flips" which suggest we are flipping samples, if people dont agree with it I can simply change the rule. No need to count yourself out of the tape bud!
Lets further discuss this point as people seem to be on different sides of the fence about it.

Peace

Sorry bro but you are absolutely wrong. Using the real console definitely does enhance the sound quality. Perhaps enhance isn't the right word but it certainly adds the character of the particular chip from whatever console.

If you only sample from youtube and emulators you will obviously never know.

Its like if you tried to emulate an analog synth in fucking ableton. Just not happening. Its an emulation, its fake.

I simply feel like we ought to be open with this one, sampling straight from hardware is dope, if you're able to get a vgm type cart in order to modify the music playback within the hardware that's cool too. Just, for a myriad of reasons, some cats don't have hardware available to them, and I don't think we ought to make the method of sampling exclusive. Let's loosen up, obv videogame flips only, but if the end result is dope, then it's dope and that's all that matters, emu/software/hardware regardless.

Let's keep it simple, let's have some fun.

Ok so it seems if it is limited to only sampling from a console we are going to lose beat makers. Im sure many of us would want to keep it as authentic as possible, and only sample from the consoles and "flip" the sample, but if we are going to be losing people over that then I think it'd be silly to do so.

Instead of allowing synthesis, cause that wouldnt be considered a sample flip, how about we allow the use of websites, as previously posted that have high quality 320 rips of music directly from the consoles and use the samples from these sites?

I just don't see the point in allowing synthesis, as it defeats the whole point of the video game flips idea. So perhaps this suggestion would be a happy medium?

Whats everyones thoughts on this?

Just trying to be a mediator here and suggest things.
