How do you record your SPs?

Post by Bah Bu Rah »

Hey so I'm wondering how you usually record with the SP 303/404, or any others with the highest sound quality in mind.

I've recored stereo into an interface with RCA/1/4' and sent things from an interface into a 404 then back.
I wonder if it would be better to use an RCA/unbalanced cable out of the headphone jack. I've been told 1/4' has more bass in it than RCA. 1/4'/Unbalanced would be ideal.

I'm mainly asking this because I have a situation...

I've been making an albums worth of songs on my 404 and 303 and can play them live with planned/improved effects, and I know want to record it.

The problem is that I want to pan and mix the samples since it will sound much better.
So I think I'll record the samples into a DAW, mix it then run it through the samplers back into DAW. But I'm used to hearing everything with effects on it like pitch and stuff so it would be odd to mix.
I also wonder if I would lose a lot of quality by first recording into a digital format then going through the samplers again. It would lose some of it's analog grit.

How would any of you approach this? With sound quality in mind.

Dont worry man, you wont lose any of that sp grit (which btw is digital ;) as long as you have a proper interface. As long as the Signal gets sampled with a high enough sample rate and number of bits, you wont hear any difference (every decent Interface is able to do this) between the Audio.

Sweet thanks!

Guess I just have to record it hot to get better recreation.

I knew SP's were digital, yet they are analog at the same time.
Hardware and circuit wise.

Shit just sounds much nicer when stuff it put on them. :o :o :o
