Should an SP-Battle allow more than one SP. If yes then we should allow bouncing to tape or digital recording device to. If no we keep the old "one box rule" tradition.

i always assumed there's an unspoken rule that recording to tape is fine on a 202 because there is no re-sampling in the box....alsoooooooo

I think folks should use as many SPs as they like, and/or bouncing to other mediums / use other gear as long as the SP is main in the mix. More opportunities for creativity, and does more to even the field than only using one box.

My logic on it is as long as it stays true to the ethic of the competiion...i'd propose it has less to do with brands and more to do with pushing a lofi box to the max. That's just me though...not sure what everyone else thinks

I think that whoever wins the last one should be able to decide the rules, but I understand not everybody has more than one SP. I don't see an issue with recording to tape---- if this is breaking the rules, I've been cheating for a while I think EQ/Compression should be allowed in the final stage, because it doesn't have to do with the composition of the song...


About allowing outside drums/bass/syths/samples/acapellas on the other hand, you might as well go to MPC-Forums... as far as I can tell, they don't care if you do the whole thing in fruityloops.

Yeah that's how I'd do it. The quality of the flip has (almost) nothing to do with the quality of the box. So a cat on a 303 could beat a cat on a 555.

And besides, this purist ethic would tighten everyone's game way more.

don't rly care if external bouncing 2 either tape or a machine is allowed but battles r much more fun when there r specific and clear limitations imo. less choice is better, im tryna get creative not drown in the sea of ennui.

100% agree with Kel here.

It's kinda unfair if one dude has one of every SP chained together Voltron style & the next just has a 303. While I don't completely like the idea of bouncing to & from tape/digital I 'spose it's OK as it doesn't make much of a difference if everyone skips the sequencer. Plus it gives the 202 guys more room. Having us all on an even keel's the main thing.

Using multiple samplers should be left for the open challenges- remember them? That's the battle style they run at the MPC forums.

But what happens when somebody has a few drum machines, guitar pedals, and synths at their disposal. If they all get sampled/chopped/processed into a sp, then is that cheating?
