We change this a site to focus on UK kitchen design, then secretly spam it with SP knowledge

Mods really need to do something. This is getting ridiculous.

At this point there's nothing the mods can do besides play cat and mouse.

Basically have 2 options.

1. Migrate the forums to another bbs system. Or update the current phpbbs to the latest version with more spam protection.

2. Lock it down for a while and make new member wait for invite.

Or a possible 3rd option.... Make new members go through a trial period where they can only post in one section and to gain full posting privileges they need to make a few posts about who they are and why they are here. I've seen other forums do this before.

i know there are tons of anti-spam plugins you can get...
or add captchas for when you make a new account so no bots can get through...just do something to fight back. i saw dibiase last night at a show and we were talking about how shitty its getting. the mods need to do something asap already.

There's only 2 mods which are regular users here. They can't do anything besides delete posts. There is one admin (keesj) who has the control to make changes to the actual forum system. Captchas don't stop spammers/bots and it makes it a pain for people who actually want to post. Like I said before best way is to make a separate section for people who have under 20 posts for example before they can post in the other sections. Or make the forum invite only. Does no good to complain to the mods as they clear up the spam on their own goodwill.

I've also previously posted links from the phpbb website which lists the options for stopping the spam. Just seems to hurt the regular users more than it would help.

The captcha used for registration is way easy to bypass (bots can read it). There should be a more difficult captcha (although it can be painful for a real user to signup) and some logical questions like naming a sampler etch...
Mods can't do much except cleaning the mess. The problem is that bots can register easily...
