Ok, so I've figured out that this particular garage sale special foot controller only transmits program change data, so that explains why it won't trigger samples. I've been looking into midi event processors (check out midi solutions. com) to use with my midi guitar and it looks like this has ...

midi foot controller

I can't seem to get my controller to trigger anything. It's an old Peavey thing.

And I guess you can't trigger patterns via midi? WTF!?

I have a book, I think it's called Drummer's Survival Guide or something. (I'll post a link to it later) It has a list of basic beats for just about every style of music, and it comes with a cd of examples too... Really highly recomended. I play guitar mostly, but I'm learning to play just about ...

Folk song with SP

ok so the drums are pretty minimal on this one so far, but it's my first semi-finished track featuring a drum machine.

Leaving an measure or two is definitely my way. Coming from recording myself playing instruments and/or vox, you gotta have time to cough, adjust the shoulder strap, get in time with the groove or click, etc...

The rc2 is cool. It's on my short list... It's live looping capabilities are far beyond the 555's, so I don't know if I would call the 404 + rc2 combo a ghetto 555...

Good luck with your setup.

I like this band called The Unicorns. Kind of indie-rockish but with drum machines, and just really good songs, goofy and cool. Weezer's Pinkerton is a favorite album. The Velvet Underground never gets old for me. Big Star is my favorite band overall.

I like Quasimoto "The Further Adventures of ...

Zen Guitar is a great book. One of the first books I found when I first started playing music, lucky for me.

Dare I suggest The Art of War? Applies to hitting the streets and performing as well as playing music.

And the Book of The Tao, the writings of CHuang-tzu.

The Dancing Wu-Li Masters ...

Digitech pedals

I have the new whammy. Very cool. Run keyboards, and crappy drum machines through it. On extreme settings the pitch shifter adds digital artifacts, but to me they sound very musical. Plus all the stuff you can do with it and a guitar. Add a slide and/or ebow for more insanity.

What I really want ...

Reaper is pretty cool

I've only spent about two hours with it, but it seems insanely awesome for freeware. You can use it to run most VSTi's-- one of the ones it comes with is actually really great for pitching samples and mapping them to the keyboard in one step. My major issue with it is that I haven't been able to cut ...

I have an sk-1 and they're pretty cool. I'm gonna send mine off to get it modded for 150$, fairly cheap plus the guy gives you credit in exchange for toy keyboards. The hands are to0 shaky to do that fine solder work myself... But there are many documented mods on the net

The flute sound and ...

Now I forgot where I read this, but it still seems to make sense to me. If you bounce down from 24 bit to 16 bit you are actually WORSE off then if you started in 16 bit, because digital artifacts are added when converting. I'm far from an expert on this, so feel free to correct me if I'm way off. I ...

So Nietsczhe says that most atheists are basically disguised Christians anyway... Call them sheep in wolves' clothing.

I wouldn't get too haughty. You gotta respect anyone who thinks and has some spiritual depth. Atheist's don't have any monopoly on rational thinking, whatever the party line.

That's a useful tip. I just got that Emu (a week or two late but oh well) and am having a ball with it. It's nice to be able to speed up and slow down samples rather than having to deal with some wack digital pitch shift. It compliments the sp 555 well.

About that pitch shift... wouldn't it have ...

You can't sample through midi because midi does not transmit sound. That's not how it works.
