Re: The ancient art of drum chopping

Pleasure, wiploc - glad you dug it, man

Headphones - Because we're taking the loop and chopping it into its component parts (i.e. kick, snare, closed hihat, open hihat, tom etc)

Re: The ancient art of drum chopping

Seriously, mate - keep an eye on your local Smack Converters. Any iOS device - phone or ipad - that runs iOS 10 and above is good to go. That's anything from an iPhone 5s, an iPad Mini 2 or iPad 5th gen upwards. I run it on an iPhone 6s that I bought off Matt Rockwell for under a ton. Works a treat ...

The ancient art of drum chopping

The latest video is created on iPad using Koala, but it's the same approach on anything you might want to use. I take this for granted but I shared it this morning and a friend I've been making music with for 20 years said he'd got something from it so I figure it's worth a share:

New BEAT CULT content: - socialising everyone's favourite antipodean arboreal herbivorous marsupial...

To put it another way: recording apps directly into KOALA / processing KOALA sounds using external plugins.

Have at it!

Making your own samples

I made a KOALA video that doesn't actually feature KOALA at all so it didn't seem right to put it with the iPad/iPhone app post.

One of my subscribers asked where I get the sounds I use within KOALA so I made a video to show them. If you use any kind of sampling at all, hopefully it might be of ...

Re: Best Ipad/pod/phone Beat Making Apps.

Just upped video 4 - basically the last in this initial series as I've taken the beat through sampling, creation and effects through to performance/finale now. The next videos will look at different approachs incorporating more external elements.

Re: Best Ipad/pod/phone Beat Making Apps.

Koala is worth every penny. Anyone who loves the immediacy of boss and roland samplers will be right at home.

I have all my drum breaks in Dropbox and open them directly into Koala. I use another app to rip audio from videos on YouTube etc and open those straight into koala too. All of it's ...

Re: Best Ipad/pod/phone Beat Making Apps.

Nice vids man! I play around with the ipad apps and I got Koala & AUM but I've only played Koala with sounds recorded with the internal mic.
That's fun too but you took it much further - inspiring indeed.

Everyone here with suitable iphone/ipad should really get Koala - it's great!

My favourite ...

Re: Best Ipad/pod/phone Beat Making Apps.

Anyone interested in how Koala gets down, I've started up a channel for beatmaking videos focusing initially on iOS apps. I've got 2 up so far & they show the workflow pretty extensively (although there's plenty more to go at as the app just got updated to introduce 8 new effects!)

Re: SP-303 DSP Reverse Engineering Crusade

I had no idea someone had actually reverse engineered the vinyl-sim, I was under the impression they were all constructed somewhat arbitrarily on the sound rather than the original code.

I was always under this impression too.

Is this in reference to Vulf Comp or is there something else ...

Re: DIY Tape Delay

This CV controlled motor is a cool mod. I saw some people hooking a potentiometer on walkmans to do that.

It's incredibly straight forward to do. Chris Randall from Audio Damage did a dope little video where he tried it out and it was literally as simple as connecting a mini jack socket to the ...

If you're on iOS, there's no better option that Koala:

It's incredible: a 404 in your pocket for less than 404p. Marek, the developer, is insanely dedicated and is currently testing 8 new FX for it (yes, including vinyl sim...) which will be released imminently. It works beautifully with AUM so ...
