Heard Sunvox was recently ported to Android. Haven't had a crack at it, but it can get the job done, if you're into trackers...fauna wrote:anyone using anything in android that they love?

There are hundreds of beat making and drum machines that are both fun and easy to use. In my opinion, you will find many production apps on iOS in the Apple store. I recommend you the iMaschine. it can work. 16 pads for real-time groove production and a library included making things smooth. compatible with different iPad models.

If you're on iOS, there's no better option that Koala:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJarbWzfa5I
It's incredible: a 404 in your pocket for less than 404p. Marek, the developer, is insanely dedicated and is currently testing 8 new FX for it (yes, including vinyl sim...) which will be released imminently. It works beautifully with AUM so you can process it through whatever you want or sync it with any other internal (or external) synths etc.
Seriously, I'm one step off going door-to-door with this thing to show people how amazing it is...

If you're on Android, Caustic is the one, imo. More complicated, but incredibly powerful and there are loads of YouTube videos on how to get the most out of it.

Oh, and easy all - new bloke/first post

Koala seems amazing. Too bad my old iPad does not support it and my phone has a crap battery.PeteSasqwax wrote:If you're on iOS, there's no better option that Koala:

Anyone interested in how Koala gets down, I've started up a channel for beatmaking videos focusing initially on iOS apps. I've got 2 up so far & they show the workflow pretty extensively (although there's plenty more to go at as the app just got updated to introduce 8 new effects!)

but I've only played Koala with sounds recorded with the internal mic.
That's fun too but you took it much further - inspiring indeed.
Everyone here with suitable iphone/ipad should really get Koala - it's great!
My favourite setup with the ipad is: turntable + mixer -> audio interface -> Loopy HD.

Thanks a load, man! I did another video today which is just rendering now (hopefully I'll publish it later on). In that one I go through the 8 new FX that Koala has as well as resampling externally (using an iphone and a Focusrite iTrack Pocket, which is DOPE for getting a cheap but good quality line-in for your lightning device).plexxsounds wrote:Nice vids man! Odd as it might sound, I've never actually used Loopy, although I've seen loads of videos and have friends who absolutely swear by it. I've got a Boss RC20XL loop pedal so I feel like I'm cheating on it when I use looping apps

100% - that's exactly what I do, too. The Dropbox link is perfect and I also have a load of samples in Audioshare just in case I don't have an internet connection (my iPhone never gets used as a phone - I've never even put a sim card in it and I think it's locked to a different network to the one I'm on!)commercial wrote:Koala is worth every penny. Anyone who loves the immediacy of boss and roland samplers will be right at home.
I have all my drum breaks in Dropbox and open them directly into Koala. I use another app to rip audio from videos on YouTube etc and open those straight into koala too. All of it's working seamlessly and all without leaving the iPad.

Just upped video 4 - basically the last in this initial series as I've taken the beat through sampling, creation and effects through to performance/finale now. The next videos will look at different approachs incorporating more external elements.

New BEAT CULT content: - socialising everyone's favourite antipodean arboreal herbivorous marsupial...
To put it another way: recording apps directly into KOALA / processing KOALA sounds using external plugins.
Have at it!
