Re: Double standards in sampling or music journalism?

The mood was set long before the Timbaland case. De La Soul was sued by The Turtles for use of their song You Showed Me on the interlude Transmitting Live From Mars. Later, Gillbert O'Sullivan famously sued Biz Markee for using a piano riff for his song Alone Again. The judge found Biz Markee guilty ...

Re: Analog n00b...please help!

The SP404 has Line level inputs, so you're going to want the TT set to Line level output. Phono is not the same as Line level. Mic is not the same as Line level. Phono is what older turntables used, it's a much lower signal with less bass. Most DJ mixers have Phono inputs which boost the signal and ...

Re: Double standards in sampling or music journalism?

It seems like they sampled something else from oizo, the telephone filtered sound right before the drop in their tune sounds just like oizo's flat eric puppet talking on the phone.

Re: Sampling from an Iphone

You can turn it to 100% and it will probably work fine but turning it down just a bit adds some room for the SP to add its own gain to the signal if you need it. If it's at 100% it will clip sooner with less gain added.

Re: tape recorders?

A regular cassette recorder can work, just have to find a good one with a decent record head. I've had good results with used Technics, Teac and JVC units from thrift shops. Smaller units like tabletop dictation recorders will give a more lofi result. A Tascam 4 track is a great option.

Re: Sampling from an Iphone

Turn your phone up to 75%-90% to raise the signal to noise ratio but not all the way so there's some headroom for the sp to work with.

Re: Sp-404sx + Microbrute?

That should work, or sample in stereo if the 1/4" out on the microbrute is in fact stereo

Re: Sp-404sx + Microbrute?

when you take two line level inputs and combine them to fit the mic input?
Y adaptors don't combine signals, it's electricity so one signal will pass through the adaptor and the other wont (usually R). You need a mixer to combine multiple signals. The issue is that Line level input is not the same ...

Re: boss pedal before sp404sx

You're right most guitar pedals are mono. Try this into the left OR right input

Make sure your 1/4" cables have one black stripe on them and not two.

Re: Sp-404sx + Microbrute?

the microbrute is a mono synth is there a way for the sp to pick up the sound to both left and right?
I believe monosynth refers to the note polyphony, not the output signal (mono, stereo). Monophonic means it has a not polyphony of one, meaning you can only play one note at a time (no chords ...

Same thing. The minimoog voyager is the reissue of the classic minimoog, some people just call it the voyager
