Re: do you believe in using only a few drums for a sig sound?
You signature sound with drums comes down to how you craft them. Which filters do you use (high, low, band), Compression(at what state in production, how much, which compressor, hardware/software), how your drums set in the mix(are the the loudest part of the song or low and below the instruments ...

The Circle
Has anyone else noticed the theme of big circles on most album covers. It's almost like we own the circle! By we, I mean everyone in this beautiful forum and people who just know.

Bath, GLK, Flying Lotus, Dumbo Gets Mad, B.Lewis, Eric Lau, Ras G's Brotha From Anotha Planet, and every other ...

Dilla/Pete rock/Premo loud drums
Everyone always talks about compressing drums to get that sound. People that distort their drums already know, the only way to get them that way is to crush your drums someway.
Compression, you can compress them to get them loud, but they might be running too loud in the compressor. Which ain't a ...

Re: Recording to tape into comp...
I got a cheap Tascam usb interface. It was the cheapest thing I could find at the time but I gotta say it was a noticeable improvement in sound quality compared to just running it into the mic in.

Re: Moving Sounds
I don't have the same problem when I record from anything else.
All I got is a single chord, RCA to 1/4". In the 404 I make kicks that got nice bass and a good punch. I seem to loose both when I record into the 2500.
I'll try different volume settings to see how it turns out.
Thanks for the ...

Moving Sounds
In my 404 I tweak my kicks and snares to perfection, but I don't like to sequence them there. When I record them into my MPC2500 they sound ugly as hell. Then I have to retweak them in the MPC.
Long story short they don't sound as good.
Anyone got any ideas, or should I try a midi cable between ...

I used the MPC2500, SP404, and the Microkorg. All awesome machines.

Quasimoto remixes
This is just some rough Ideas. I'd like to redo the Phony Game, that one has always been hard for me to match to a beat.

Re: Velocity on 303
Madlib usually has his mpc2000xl or sp1200 on the drums.
The reason some producers have a different sound is because they don't use the same piece of equipment. Everyone Talks about how the MPC, SP1200, SP404, ASR10, and other stuff have a unique sound, that's because they do. Producers with a ...

Vinyl Sim
I always hear a lot of talk about the vinyl sim compressor. I'm sure that I'm kind of overusing it when my beats come out a little too loud, when and how do you use it?

Re: how much is too much?
That's not too far-fetched. I like to listen to mixes like that. I don't like to have to download someones beat tape then unzip it.
I got some long mixes I've heard. If I were you I would maybe break it into part 1 and 2, but you should just do you.
