Casio CZ-1000 or the Casio CZ-5000

Hey. does anybody on here have any experience with either of the two? I plan on picking up one of the two, but am trying to figure out which one I should get. Along with them being classic synths, what sparked my interest in the synth is the ability to create my own synth sounds..and the seller is asking $100 for each..not bad a bad deal right? I need a synth, and $100 is def in the budget. So yeah, I'm new to synth programming but defiently game to learning..just need to know which route to go out of the two...opinions?

CZ-1000


Casio CZ-1000
The CZ-1000 was the second fully programmable phase distortion synthesizer that Casio introduced. This synthesizer, introduced in 1985, was identical to the CZ-101 in function, but used full size keys and more attractive membrane buttons. It was also somewhat larger than the CZ-101. Like the CZ-101, this synthesizer had 49 keys.

CZ-5000
The CZ-5000 synthesizer was almost identical to the CZ-3000, but had a built in 8 track sequencer. In most other regards, it was virtually identical to the other CZ series synthesizers. In the mid 80's this was Casio's flagship alongside the CZ-1, which was a redesigned performance version without the sequencer but adding velocity and aftertouch to the keyboard along with better memory options and a backlit screen.

Grab the 5000. US$100 is about right for a 1000 / a good deal for a 5000. They both sound rad but the 5000 is more of a 'power' user synth versus the 1000. I've got a 1000 and I like it a lot, though I hate the old school membrane buttons. You can get some crazy sounds if you put some time into it and they sound great if you put em through an external delay or reverb.

That STBB_196 Dextar track is slick..played it twice back to back.

Thanks man. The high synth that comes in around .31 on Dextar is based off one of the string presets in the CZ 1000.

Make sure you test them out first btw, a lot of the membrane keypads can have issues. Also the internal batteries will be dead on most of 'em so you need to use D's (six of em I think) in order to save patches.

I was able to get my CZ 5K for $150 or 175. Check to make sure all sliders are intact and that the sound patches work. Also make sure the keys are responsive. The sound set is the same and is tweakable to the heart's content. Only difference is the sequencer.
