Parallel Compression

404 peeps, whuttup! Hope your music has reached another galaxy by now. I'm sure it has. I need advice. I have 2 of the original 404's, a kp3 and an mpc500. I need to know what do you guys think is the best way for me to achieve parallel compression either with these machines working together or by themselves for a drum sample and a regular sample that lowers when the kick comes in. Pleeeez help. This will truly take my music to planet Kronos. They like me on that planet ok. Peace.

It's also called Ducking Compressor I believe.

unfortunately there isn't really a way to do this on these machines...

What you can do is on the SP, record a whole track to a sample pad, then resample that track, while turning the compressor up/down or even just the level up/down in time with the kind of pumping/ducking you wanna hear...

The problem is all the effects on this gear is just input->effect->output

whereas sidechain you need

input1->sidechain
input2->effect->output

For sidechaining, you can fake it with the SP's. Just turn the track you want to "duck" lower and use vinyl sim on all the tracks together. Mainly it works well with drums. Have em loud and the rest of the samples low and when you compress them all at the same time, the samples will duck under the drums. but will be loud in between drum hits.
