It's Gonna Be Good Now

Post by drewzle »

thought I'd share my latest beat, see what you guys think...

the piano line is made of individual hits taken from a Kate Bush song called 'Prologue'. I cut up the vocals for the hook from the same track.

I arranged and sequenced the chopped pianos first, in the 404.
then made the drum beat in another pattern on the 404
I then recorded the piano pattern into Cool Edit, and also recorded the sequenced drum patterns into a separate file
I dropped these two files into Ableton, used my MIDI controller to play along and created the bassline
finally, chopped up vocals for a hook in the 404, then recorded the pattern into the PC as a .wav and added to the Ableton mix

i went about it in this way so i could retain control of the individual channels. this allowed me to EQ and compress them separately. i cut the bass frequencies out of the piano track, cut the highs from the bassline, compressed the drums and tweaked the mids of the hook vocal. The aim of all the bouncing was to use each machine to it's strengths, the 404 for hands on jamming and the PC for the minute mastering/mixing control

hope you enjoy :)

Dope beat man I like how you did the vocals and the drums sound nice and crunchy like a mpc 60II, my only problem is that the piano is a little repetitive if you chopped up some guitar sounds and played them over the piano loop I think it would add another dimension of sound.
