I don't have one but I don't see any reason why it shouldn't drive a 404.
Provided you have the things pads set to send midi notes that match your 404's samples and on the right midi channel - it'll work. Functionally, it's not that different from a TriggerFinger or padKontrol - just that you can hit it with sticks.

Oh ok, I read somewhere after posting this it required a different type of midi- one with start stop messages?

You'd need start/stop to trigger pattern playback, not samples.
