Hey guys I'm new to the forum and just got my sp-404 a few days ago. I'm very happy with it to say the least! It's an awesome tool.
My question is concerning the 4 knobs/dials on the sp(vol, ctrl1, ctrl2, & ctrl3). I want to put some custom knobs on but I'm not sure how to go about removing the existing knobs. Do I just pull them off with gentle force or are they screwed in from inside the case? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You can pull them STRAIGHT up and they will come off. I replaced mine with low profile knobs from radio shack that screw on.

Re: Help>Changing knobs/dials
Jeff: are those Shack knobs not a bit tight in that they rub the knob pots too much? I bought some, and spent days with a tiny screwdriver trying to make adjustments, until I made marks in my knob prong and soon after I switched back to the factory knobs I developed a crackle in my volume. Now I'm afraid I have to replace that whole knob mechanism underneath, and I just bought the thing a few months ago. Maybe those work better with the regular 404, rather than the SX.

Okay, thanks for the quick reply. I found some cool retro knobs at a local electronics shop that I'm going to put on.

I I had to sand/file the knobs so they would not rub. I dont think you need to tighten them up severely. I think you may have some dirt in your pot, i dont think it is effected by the knob mod.
