noob with card issues... any way to recover files?

Post by jasontrojan »

i bought my unit a couple weeks ago with no samples loaded and no card.

i had an old 64Mb Sandisk card i lying around, formatted it and used it until last week when i got a 2Gb Sandisk Ultra (15MB/s, the ones i see are preferred around here, by chance b.t.w.) which i formatted and started sampling to, at which point i set the 64Mb card aside.

i happily worked away on the 555, uploading samples via wave converter, sampling through every hole and working on the card banks, things were going great!

i had been using loop capture to record a keyboard performance over a looped beat, and was having a difficult time getting good results (reading this board i learned that i could use a pedal!) so i was recording samples (or perhaps loops, i can;t remember exactly) and almost immediately deleting them for another take.

during one round of deleting a sample, i may have poked another button while the unit was in the process of deleting. my unit froze, and would not respond to anymore buttons. i threw the power switch and upon rebooting my cf card was no longer recognized. i had lost at least a few hours of work that had not been exported to my computer!

also, the previously mentioned 64Mb cf card was no longer recognized, both cards prompted me to format when i attempt to engage their banks, and wave converter didn;t recognize them either.

this leads me to a couple questions:

has anyone encountered this behavior before and accidentally lost their work?

is there any way to recover the files (that i can see on my card through win xp explorer) and get my samples back?

i am holding off on re-formatting my 2Gb card, though i backed up the files. i have reformatted the 64Mb card, and it is working fine again. anyone got any ideas?
