404sx Window Shopping?

Greetings all. I browse this board every once in a while but just joined today. I'm purchasing the 404sx this week. Of course, I want to find the best price. Online and most shops the price varies around $400. I found the 404sx around $320-$350. My question is...should I be hesitant about these prices. These online shops that provided me with such a great price seem like suspect distro shops for random electronics. A couple of the sites listed the Sp-404sx as strictly from Boss, Roland not to be mentioned anywhere. Also, on amazon the 404sx is only listed under the title "BOSS BOSS SUPER HOT NEW SAMPLER AND FX SP404SX". That makes me very uncomfortable...or am I missing something. I know you guys know your stuff very well and I am hoping you can help me make a good decision. Can I trust these odd sites with cheap prices or break down and go into a Guitar Center and drop $420. I appreciate the help, please note, I don't want to be talked into buying a regular sp404 or be told I'm an ass for wanting to get the sampler at a lower price. Also, sorry if this has been covered, I am new here for the most part.

hey cutti - welcome to the forums.

it's kinda hard to say. personally, i wouldn't buy a sampler from a place like "appliance direct" or whatevs, cuz they pro'lly know nothing about musical gear.

also, i'd be wary of any site if there is no photo with the ad, because i would not be convinced I'd be getting the SX rather than the OG 404.

(note: as an OG 404 user, there's nothing wrong w/ that box. but you want an SX, and therefore that's what you should get).

if it were me, i'd buy from a musical instrument shop (such as yr guitar centre) and just pay the extra dough to get the thing right away, rather than saving a few bucks (granted, there IS a price dif) and waiting to see if the box you think you ordered is the one you get.

in aw this stuff, it is buyer beware.

we don't have guitar centres here in canada, but a lotta cats on here know about them (or other options) so they may be able to chime in.

Yeah man those sites look really bad. Pay the extra coin and get it from a place like GC, at least you know you'll actually get it. I've ordered from B&H too, they're great.
