Software Problem

Post by bigcas910 »

Everytime I try to open P606, I get this error on startup and the program closes, "DirectSound SetCooperativeLevel Failed 80070057." Does anyone know why?

Got your drivers installed? What windows are you running? P606 won't run on windows 7 you know. Is the SP connected directly to the comp? Need more info to help you out.

One of two things can be happening here;

1. You've set your SP-606 as the main Audio device in Windows, this doesn't match properly with P606 at start-up

2. You've got too many USB devices registered. Windows can remember / register 10 devices properly, after that it will get messy in case of the SP-606.

I figured out how to edit this on Windows XP and get it to work, but the main thing is you need to get into the Windows Registry and delete USB registers that you aren't using. Make sure to un-install everything before doing that registry editing, drivers included.

Than install it again, reboot so Windows will search for new hardware and go from there.

Check out the following:

but MORE IMPORTANTLY:

Those last two links deal with topics explaining the registry thing. Peace!

i mean from what I can tell windows recognizes the unit fine and the drives say they installed sucessfully and that the sp 606 is ready to use

Do you have any other usb hardware like kaosspad, synth etc installed?
I would recommend to use the unistall utility from Roland site ,but be carefull cause it will delete any roland driver...
also check in audio properties in device manager of windows that sp606 is not the default playback-recording device(like phemox said)...then open P606(if it works) and choose wdm or asio driver...

I think Windows indeed sees the SP-606 as the default sound or audio device as Korakios said.

Yeah, but that's not the problem. The problem is that Windows doesn't see it as an midi & audio interface when it's registered as the 11th USB device. Mind you, plug-and-play USB devices tend to register multiple times, sometimes even every time you plug it in.

Meaning if your SP-606 works fine when set to USB mass storage, it can still mean it doesn't work in P606 software.

The solution seems to be to free up the Windows register by getting rid of unused USB devices that are registered.
