tascam dp-02 portastudio_any good???

Post by springwater »

anyone rocking the tascam dp-02.
just wanted a little info on it and not the info they give you on the site but the behind the scenes info.
is it worth it, hows the no mid range eq treating you, any effects, is the workflow easier than a computer based recording system(which is what i have and hate right now) and how about the usb connection and recording quality.
let me know

hehe, unfortunately I dont own one :)

But im pretty sure JayLost has one, so you can hit him up springwater.

I think it would be a decent addition to the setup if you need something to record your tracks to.

I love mine. Tascams imo make make the friendliest multi track recorders on the market, its basically just like having an old school tape 8 track except you can transfer via usb (as you know) which from my use and research functions better then all the others on the market. as for sound quality i like it , i recorded my last two tracks on it,but not sure if its much use to sample the sound quality since i muddy my shit up so much with cacophony and sample all my shit in lo fi and basically suck at life , let me know if there is any other questions you might have about this quality unit, by the way i have the dp02 cf
LENS ANSWERING MACHINE & OTHER THEMES TAPE OUT NOW!!!!!

thats what im getting today, the dp-02cf. im just really interested in playing everything live. i think i work better that way so im interested in the punching in and out, the repeating of loops so i dont have to play everything the whole time, (i used to do that on this yamaha djx i used to have) all that recording business. i just wanna make sure it wont be a pain in the ass since im not using a computer screen to multitrack.

guys
i own the tascam dp01fx; i bought it 4 years ago; what i like is that you can add external fx in the bounce, so i use my sps and the st224 also as fx boxes...
does the dp 02cf can be able to make apply external fx in the bounce/mix/master?

well, it says you can do effects send and returns, i dont fully know how these work. i used to use effects sends with my old mixer to my compressor but it wasnt recording anything it was just running the sound through it. is that what effects sends are for when dealing with multitracking. like i dont get how you effect your sound through the send, could you sort of resample an entire track with outboard effects and have that as a track or are you just running the sound through the effects to the master?

when lee perry and king tubby invented the Dub, they just bounced tracks together and while doing that they added fx (reverb, phaser or compression, delay etc) to hihat, or snare or bass to create open spaces in their tracks...they done that via the send/return thing: some recorders (analog or digital) has those ins(send) and outs(return) to make you process the tracks in real time; so you can dry/wet tracks on the fly with fx when you mixing/bouncing your tracks ...this is a technique that the dub pushed almost to his maximum...some says that the beginning of what we call now "remix" has begun in the '70 with techniques like that...

...how many space in those tracks...

i think i get it. so if i wanted to have a track with reverb, id record the track, then bounce it with the effect applied. i get it. so after you bounce it you get rid of the dry version. nice!!!!
anyways, i just got it today!!!!!!! just got home, plugged it up then came on here to brag about it. i feel like i have super powers with this thing, so strong and sturdy. every button i press makes me feel like i could destroy a continent with the same finger.
I HAVE THE POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

oh, another question for the man with the answers, can guitar pedals be used as effects for send and returns or does it have to have specific ports for send and return on the effects device as well.

lots of cool (and cheap)pedals can be used for you aim! it's a good idea, they dont need any specific port, they just got to have one port (in) for the instrument and one out for make the sound go away from it...think the peadal like a bypass...
boss and zoom have good multi fx pedals for that aim...sometimes you can apply 5 or 6 fx simultaneously with them...
but also your SP can be used as an fx box, don't forget it!

hey dude

yeah I have a Tascam dp 02 cf - just trying to figure out how to loop a recording for me to dub over to proceed recording a beat. I don't want to play in my drums live the whole time other wise there's gonna be off time moments throughout the 1-2 minuet process. the pattern seq on sp 303 is off time when I draw in live or even quantise. any help would be great.

thanks
