hi
i was wondering to buy one smartmedia card for the beast, but looking at the crazy incredible price on the net (sometimes i will pay more than the sp202 too!!!), i will ask:
what do you do with a smartmedia card? i read that you can play only one sample at time on banks c-d, so what? it is only for stocking samples? at that price i don't if it's worth...
SMARTMEDIA: what are the real advantages?

Re: SMARTMEDIA: what are the real advantages?
After having a non-media carded 202 for around 10 years, I finally bought a 2mb card. I don't think the card is essential, but I appreciate being able to make longer loops.

Re: SMARTMEDIA: what are the real advantages?
Yeah, the 202 has a max polyphony of 4, and for some reason playing a sample off the card takes up 3 voices...
Check page 19 of the owner's manual, as it breaks it down pretty nice on what you can and can't play at the same time on the 202:

As congo said the advantage of the smart media card on the 202 is basically that it allows you to do much longer samples than the internal memory. You get like 30 seconds hi fi sampling on the intermal memory, and 4 mins 27 seconds with a 4MB card... (you can increase the times by using a lower sampling rate, obviously)..

Re: SMARTMEDIA: what are the real advantages?
This seems a bit useless for me as I am mainly interested in lo-fi sampling. Guess the advantage of card is mainly the backup option...
Re: SMARTMEDIA: what are the real advantages?

happy me!
