Battle 55: ENDED! Voting in progress! (Sponsored by Roland™)

Post by keesj »

The battle is closed! Vote here!

Deadline: Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 10:00 AM (timezone: UTC/GMT)
You can check out this link to see the date and time in your own timezone.

Update: we've updated the rules slightly. Please use a Roland sampler as your main sampler. You're still allowed to use other samplers to optimize your beat.

Today we're announcing the first battle with actual prizes. Hooray!! Roland was kind enough to supply us with a bunch of SP404 face plates to the winners of this battle. So let's amaze Roland with your creativity!

Here are the details:

Samples
You get to choose between two samples, supplied by the winners of the previous battle. You can use one or both samples for your beat.

Sample 1, as chosen by IIIII: http://www.box.net/shared/73qj62c9x1
Sample 2, as chosen by Wax Inspektor: http://www.box.net/shared/3k2x1k29o2

Deadline
September 22nd, so you have two weeks! Try not to postpone entering ;)

Prizes
Roland is offering prizes to the top ten entrants. The number one will get both a red and black face plate for the SP404. Winners 2 to 10 will get to choose between either a red or black face plate.

Rules
  • Please use a Roland sampler (SP or MV) as your primary equipment. However, if you can spice it up by incorporating some other samplers you might have laying around that's okay. You can use any feature on your sampler but keep in mind the community will vote. So if you will be able to do some amazing stuff with only limited resources that will be appreciated as well!
  • Only use elements posted for the battle. No extra drums from your library, etc. Anything left in your machine after you initialize the memory is fine.
  • Everyone can enter one beat, and one beat only! You can however, change your beat if the deadline hasn't passed yet.
  • You enter by posting a link to your beat in this topic. Please include the used equipment as well. Also note the sample you used or whether you used both.
  • Unfortunately the prizes can only be shipped within the US. We realize this is a huge downside but that's just the way it is. However, anybody is allowed to enter the battle. So if you win and don't have a US address you can either ship it to a friend or family who can then ship it to you. If you can't supply a valid US address we'll ship the prize to another entrant.
  • Winners will be decided by voting. All current members are able to vote. You cannot vote for yourself. Votes from people who signed up just to vote will not count. (we will verify all votes)
  • Voting runs for three days. A couple of days after the poll closes the winners will be officially announced who will then be contacted.
  • Winners have to respond within a week in order to claim their prize. If you're not sure you will be able to do that, please contact me beforehand.
  • I, keesj, will moderate this specific battle so all former and current battle moderators can enter this battle.
  • The winners of the previous battle (IIIII and Wax Inspektor) have chosen the samples. To not give them an unfair advantage they have to at least use the sample the other ones sample. Of course they are free to use both samples if they want.
  • By entering the battle you are NOT transferring any rights to us. You retain full ownership of your beat.
  • SP-Forums is not responsible for anything. We don't make any guarantees but we'll do our best to run everything as smoothly as possible. These rules are subject to change.

Let the battle begin!

Any questions should be emailed to me ([email protected]).

hey keesj,

thanks for organizing this. pretty fun.

same question as above, though: is it that we can use any SP- sampler? because otherwise, there are a number of functions we could use from akai, yamaha stuff, etc.

Are these actual metal covers/skins or are they like the style flip vinyl decals? Either way they are damn sexy and make me want to buy an SP even more!!

I'm going to mess with these samples as well, sounds like fun. (Good sample choice!)

I'm not quite eligible for receiving a prize, but perhaps folks here want to send me one through after I've submitted their address. ;)
