this came from an italian guy from venice. didn't knew this machine at all. it seems useful to cut/glitch/chop on the fly. don't know if supports midi indeed...

notice in all the videos it's always got that USB cable in it...

Not a bad idea.. although I think the monome has already covered alot of this ground... and the interface seems a bit strange - all the buttons seem to be on the back side of the device?

Yeah, it's a controller from what I understand.

It looks sweet, but it might be a pain to work with. Using it looks like preparing some kind of magic spell. :p

That guy is really on to something with it though. A similar box that didn't rely on a computer would really be the shiznit. Isn't the KP3 capable of this sort of loop manipulation?

it kind of is.. its not so immediate to access all parts of the sound - youre still kind of stuck on a timeline..

The monome however.. . is capable of everything this thing does, and so much more.. It's not standalone either, but given the choice - id go the monome.

I think manufacturers are really missing out with the standalone units...

EG, the NI Maschine... if that had been standalone, it could've been a monster - they could've taken a significant chunk of MPC sales even.

but both maschine and monome doesn't support midi i think.
how to supplyto this? maybe with soundcards?

both the beat chopper and the monome work off of MAX MSP so youd have to program that in order to get a midi out to a box with just midi ins and outs

the only reason the monome exists is because of a MAX/MSP so they arent missing out on midi, they just havent tried.

and honestly you wouldnt be able to do the same things the monome can with MAX/MSP in hardware, there would be too many wires, and you would need a sequencer midi out per line of led/buttons, not to mention all the individual effects and random programs involved.

...or you have to use sp-303+sp-404+sp-505+sp-555+sp-606+mpc1000/2000xl+kp3 in a mega midi session with 4/6 hands ....but i know that unfortunately more than 5 midi instruments it's too much for the correctly reading of midi messages...

Tenori-On, Monome, OTTO ... they look cool and complicated, but I really think they're a btch to work with.
