importing audio files

hey i just bought y SP 404 yesterday and i'm having trouble importing audio files onto it to sample. can someone help me with this because the instructions kind of fall short on he description of this. thanks!

1. format cf card according to instructions
2. copy your wav/aif samples to the root of the cf card
3. use the 'import' function of the 404

which bit are you havin trouble with? better description will help us help you

i had a little trouble with this. just name it correctly then add all files to the 'root' folder. u don't even need a folder, just copy all that u have renamed and paste in the 'root' folder. actually ifit's .wav or .aiff; i don't think u would even rename it. but u can and i like to.

think it has to be .aif and not .aiff^

sorry still not getting it.

here is exactly what im doing.

1. naming the files: tempa.wav and tempb.wav
2. dragging files directly into file "Roland"
3. putting card back in Sp-404
4. pressing Cancel then Resample
5. press Rec

and after i press Rec it says "Emp" which i assume means empty.

dont drag it into the roland folder.
It is supposed to be in the root folder, which means 'next to' the roland folder.

well put mostblunted!

when your attachment folder opens (hook it upafter booting your pc{using a formatted 404 memory card}) put said music clips(wav,aif) next to the folder tha says roland. when finished use the disconnect icon, move memory card to 404. follows directions in manual.

u know what i've not tried yet is exporting, i'm not wise with audicity and such(least not yet). does it just come up on the pc as wav??

Yep, default is it'll make a .wav. I think you can switch it make .aif with one of those power on/keys pressed commands the 404 has so many of.

Watch out for space on the card. The export file is twice the size of the one in the sample bank and maybe 4 times the size if it's a lo-fi sample.

Just keep in mind that the SP-404's OS loads the samples in alphabetical order, so if you want a sound file to be assign to a specific bad, you should name the file accordingly. For example:

Let's say you have two .aif files named kick.aif and snare.aif and you wanted to import them starting on pad 1, and you wanted the snare to be on pad 1 and the kick to be on pad 2. When you import them, it would be the other way around (kick.aif on pad 1 and snare on pad 2) because the SP does this alphabetically. To get around that, you would rename the files to something like a_snare.aif and b_kick.aif.

A helpful reminder for putting certain samples on certain pads within a specific bank is to put the bank letter followed by the pad number before the name of the sample (e.g. D_05_Loop1.aif).
