Day 3 of SP Trainning... I have some questions

Whats up yall!! I go by Twelve Jewelz and I just got my first sampler 3 days ago and I went with the Sp404. What can I say...I LOVE IT!!! It was def worth the money. Prior to owning the Sp I was a strictly software user (FL) until I got bored... I dont know the quality wasnt bad, but I needed more stimulation. Anyway this is my 3rd day learning the basics and so far I got this:

- Recording patters
- Applying some sound fx
- Putting samples into the machine with my CD player system
- Resampling
- Quantize

I previously owned a midi pad so I am used to banging out on the drums, but these are top off the line pads! My questions are:

How do I transfer these patterns into my computer??

How do I put samples/chops into the sp without burning them into a cd and sampling... I hate using the "MARK" button...

Also, what do you guys use for sequencing?

I have Audacity... and I am pretty sure I can use FL to sequence and Mix if I wanted to.

it sounds dickish but the search feature will tell you only slightly more than the manual will...

the last part of your post asks how to get samples without using the burn cd thing...

the memory card and a cardreader will do that you load sounds on the card and upload the sounds to the machine

there is a way to backup the the stuff off your sp to the memory card and drag them off to your computer.. its all in the manual which you can download from this site and the roland site..

or use the forum search and look up keywords..

Damn I really want to know how to transfer these beats into my computer... can I do that with the memory card?

Also, how much do these cards run for?? What do I ask for when I go to buy it?

if by transfer you mean export it, you can not export a beat directly from the 404.
download a program like audacity or something and hook the audio cables- SP404 output to computer input. and record it. that is the best way if you dont have any other gear.

Yeah I saw that... I am def going to take a listen and drop feed.

I ve been making beats for about 3 years on and off so this Sp thing is going to come naturally to me... I am first going to first learn the basics and then its on... watch out for me...

welcome to the forum jewelz. as peeps stated above, you gotta 'record out' to get yr patterns and beats on to a computer or four track or any other recording device.

but i wanted to jump in here and say: get yr hands on that "mark" button.

once you get used to how it works, and little tricks here and there, it really allows for some very cool, very fast chopping. you get the mark button grabbing different parts of a beat, use yr resample function, and yr basically in chop-master-heaven.

i made the jump from strictly pc beat making to hardware and the mark button took some time to get used to (cuz i was used to visual displays for chopping

), but once i got used to it, the 'mark' is a great way to go about things, just using yr ear, and sometimes getting lucky.

YEah I practiced a whole lot today... I am really getting the hang of it now. And I hear you on the recording... now what cord, or wire do I need to record into the pc?

i thought the backup caught patterns that could be dragged off the card... my bad..
