Post by tape smoke »

i drove an hour to check out a record sale. only to miss it by 25 minutes. oh i was pissed off, so on my way home checked out a pawn shop, and saw this for 99 bucks , and i got the dude down to 50 cause it doesnt have an adapter, but it runs on batteries, has a built in mic, and has a 128 mb flash card . i guess this solves my resample sequencer when i get my 404 . i cant speak for this guy with the deal, but i was just reading in this magazine tape-op. that you can subscribe to for free, just google it, its the shit its all about studio recording techniques and rig ups and gear with interviews, anywya,,, this guy is talking about recording to analog tape (and using machines in general) instead of a daw in the computer and basically hes going on saying that different kinds of tape or machines that you record into "color" the sound in some way, thats why people seek after certain mixing boards used on say like motown records or something, computer recording and daw's just capture the sound wave "as-is" which i guess sometimes you want in the sense of clarity or if you have really sick plug ins to use, but external devices for recording give various degrees of warmth to a recording

if you dont read anything of this just google TAPE-OP and subscribe for free

yea this is my third outboard recorder.

its nice to have options . i had a br 1180 before, but it broke down.
i think recording to tape sounds better then recording to a daw . because
with tape you can let it bleed a bit and it saturates and sounds good.
im shure you can run the signal thru a tube and get the same effect on a daw.
but tapes are working for me now. and this has cool fx and shit. im pretty shure
the br 864 records real cold because its digital, then you can juice it up on a pc or with the mastering tools.

That's a sweet find. To answer the earlier comment, I can't speak for the poster, but I just don't like working on the computer any more than I have to as far as music goes. Probably comes from spending so much time on the computer anyway, but when I make noise I like to have faders and knobs and such. Anyway can't have a DAW open slowin down my torrents now can I? =) Anyway my 2¢.
