time signatures

Post by getonthegoodfoot »

as an aside, i posted a msg about 'swing' just before this and i meant to reply to the previous post concerning the subject. sorry for any confusion.

regardless, i wanted to know if there is any way to use other time signatures than 4/4 on the 404. (ie. 3/4, 6/8). i haven't been able to find anything in the manual about this and would really appreciate any tips.

the only way to step outside the 4/4 paradigm is to do it freestyle. the box won't do it for you. and i don't know how you'd even begin to rock a six/smiley face. =)

I've gotten some pretty gnarly polyrhythmic 5/4, 7/8 beats by just messing with the pattern makers BPM and a loop that is not in 4/4. You can get an out of time loop to fit in time usually to some kind of 4/4 BPM but you can't quantize any accents for shit, you have to go completely raw to hammer it out. It can definitely be done though.
