Backup Problemo Big Time

Post by Jollyollyman »

ok, so i'm real lazy, so i did a bunch of stuff, and didn't feel like tracking it out. So everytime i filled up my 404, i'd move the ROLAND folder onto my computer. now, when i try to load those backups back up, it just gives me the intialize cf card message.

any helP?

you cannot change anything about the folder, not even the name of the main folder. you might be able to reaname the folder to ROLAND(i think) but i can't say if would work or not. let me know if this doesn't work there is most likely one more chance after that.

ok then format your card in the 404. tahe it out and put it in the pc ccard reader. now try copy and paste the sub files. it's not very clear what i'm saying i know but my best advice would be try every possible way until it works. i.e. all folders/no, folders content only/no, and so on until it works. it's a little time consuming but i had to do this once myself. just be patient and keep trying with a copied root folder. i think it'll be fine unless you were taking the card out before the machine was off (or device removed). good luck.

thanks JBL, unfortunately, i have taken the CF out of my reader without clicking the safely remove button.

would that really mess it up??

and if it did, would a new CF card fix it? cuz i gotta get another anyway.

i think jbl was talking about removing it from a running 404. removing it from the computer without clicking "safely remove" would only hurt it if you were in the middle of a transfer or something.

i was kinda talking about both. either could be problematic. remember that card readers get their power via usb (though major problems are unlikely). i would try to reformat the card in the 404 and use it for a little bit and see if it works ok and then you would know if you absolutely need to buy a new card, though multiple cards will help you out a lot.
