Fancy owning Aphex Twin's SP1200?

Post by Girru »

The description is smirkingly crytic and I know RDJ has sold a lot of his stuff through this bi-annual auction before.

There's usually some nice stuff on these auctions. I've spent much money here in the past (buying and then selling for a quick loss soon after, lolz, such is my way); usually something catches my eye every year. This time last year I bought a Prophet 2002 from here.
Think it goes live the weekend of the 5th. Check back on the Friday before, there'll be much more gear. Use the search bar at the bottom if you're looking for something specific.

Big aphex fan here, but (unless I missed smth) this all seems very anonymous in listing so I’m really intrigued into what makes you think this is his gear? Would for real love to know:)

Coz I know for a fact he's sold a ton of hardware through this place before, all his rare analogue synths etc. He periodically unloads a bunch of stuff. The gotek thing has 'afx blahaphexysoundingname' as a track. And it's relatively well known that the RS7000 was one of his favourite sequencers into the 00s ("one of many examples owned").

Peter Forrest owns and runs these auctions. He was the author of the A-Z Of Analogue Synthesisers books and has a load of 'celebrity' clients and he sources stuff for them as well as selling their old stuff. If you've watched these auctions before, you get to know when he's hinting where something's come from.

From the 2016 sale of a Korg PS-3300...

"What makes this sale even more intriguing is that one of the instruments comes from Richard D James, the usually reclusive musician known as Aphex Twin. VEMIA sells chunks of his incredible collection for him whenever he needs to make more space in his studio, but he nearly always prefers for it not to be attributed to him. This time he has relented, because the instrument is so special."

If you emailed Pete and asked him, I'm sure he'd confirm what was and wasn't his.

I was looking at getting an RS7000 a while ago. Would've been kicking myself if I had but could've got an Aphex one a little while later, lolz.

I've got a couple of weeks to get a good few grand together, ha ha ha HA HA HA. An SP1200...plus a potential exclusive Afx track as a brucie bonus!
