yo, im struggling on how to get super hard hitting drums. ive heard other tracks where the drums sound super heavy and i just don't know how to do it on a 404. i'll leave a couple examples of what i mean. hope ur all well, peace.

A common technique is to lower the volume of the main sample but keep the kick at the same level. Then use remain with FX 12. This will duck the sample for some overcompressed sidechain.
Another way is to use distortion or bitcrushing to add to the fundamental.
If you have a tape recorder, bounce a hot signal to tape for dirty saturation

Been doing a quarantine beat tape entirely by doing this, definitely adds a dope crunch to the drums (especially kicks and snares) and compresses the whole track nicely as well.MONGEN wrote:If you have a tape recorder, bounce a hot signal to tape for dirty saturation
Or I resample my drum loop to tape and back to SP, crunchy drums and now have a drum pattern resampled I can use. Using "cleaner" sample adds some contrast. Makes the drums stand out a lil more
