Just lost all my beats

Post by Lou-E »

yo this is less of a mourn circle over my beats and more of a reminder to keep backups of your beats yo, had 2 gigs of stuff gone because of some hard drive going corrupted. now im switchin over to my older laptop and saving it all on a sd card and switch over to a new one every now and then. make sure you all do this, especially if you all getting ready to make a beat tape to try and make it big.

yes. i had somewhere probably around 1000 beats i had made in the past 6 years, and i lost almost everything (still had my few soundcloud and bandcamp beats lmao). hard disk corrupted. everything gone. the music files on that hard drive had been accumulating for over 20 years, from computer to computer. almost 3 weeks time of continuous sound if you wanted to listen to the entire collection of music once. all gone.

2gb aint shit

back your shit up kids

Throw the bad HD in a ziplock bag, then place in freezer for at least 30 minutes if not longer. Let cool for a few and see if it spins. Old trick that works a lot. I usually have a a SATA to usb that I use to extract the data. Good luck!

So...Much for "making it big"

Is that really a dream nowadays for people making sp music

Who are lo-fi/Spee'ers or artists that "made it big"
What's your definition? Madlib?

P.s. bum love about the HD. Put it in a freezer like the above post. Sorry to hear. That's a shit card to be dealt.
Make better beats and make it... Bigger...??

my idea of making it big is just being able to live off of money made from my beats, not anything like madlib or the likes.

not sure if i can throw it in a freezer because its a macbook, cant take shit out of that without 5 different specialized tools. looked up the problem and it looks like the logic board is the problem.

logic boards fail pretty frequently on macbooks.

if you got that apple care plan still active you can get the logic board swapped out. You could also replace it yourself.

I've had 3 of them fail on me. It's an overheating issue.

good luck

you should also look into get 2 separate external SSD drives as backups for files you think are important to you.

I feel ya. Lost all my stuff a couple times... Back in 2001 a surge during a lightning storm fried my computer... I was really bummed until I remembered I had made bounces of all my best tracks on a minidisc. But then it turned out my girlfriend at the time had recorded over it with some wack-ass poetry of hers. I was pissed. A year of hard work down the toilet. And then again 10 years later, accidentally throwing away a plastic bag I had tossed all of my CF cards into while cleaning my studio space. So since then I back up everything and keep it organized on 2 drives.

Sucks big time. Another reason to record to cassette.

I couldn't imagine losing all my beats...or even 2 gigs worth.
I have a little fabric pouch that I keep ALL my sp memory cards in, like 20 memory cards (I'm a sample & beat hoarder). The majority of my beats are on those memory cards, def over 1,000 beats. I bring that little memory card pouch with me everywhere like an idiot & don't have any back ups..... if I lost that pouch, I would be pretty sad

Not trying to make it big or anything, but my beats are like a photo album. I love listening to old beats & goin down memory lane...... since I make a lot of beats with my brother & we've had some amazing nights, it brings back a lot of good memories listening to the beats we made together & hearing how much we improved over the years. If I lost all of our beats of course new memories would be made, but still. I feel for you guys! Damn

I usually store all my shit in the cloud like box.com or dropbox. It's safe from corrupt hard drives and lost CF cards.
Accessible everywhere and can take up some corporate storage space located somewhere in the states.
It's only accessible by me, George bush and some Russian haxxors,
fake news yallah!

most my beats from this year are on this shitty little hardrive from walgreens lmao
everything else can get lost for all i care

its east to be bummed over lost beats, especially if its some of your favorite stuff. but having something you feel is "your best work" can put a mental ceiling on what your capable of, losing it can give you a fresh start and with that you can do things you never knew you were capable of

If you're gonna record to PC or memory cards, why not use some Cloud feature or upload service.

I will never SAVE on computer ever again. I had stuff from the 90s and early 2000s recorded to hard drive and it shit the bed. Never again.
Fuck computers.

Ears and tapes!

You could skip a cassette across a highway and it will still work.
Just don't record over by accident.

Nice with the pause button.
Old school. Mechanical. Analog!

Pour one out for all the lost beats...

I feel for you Lou-

It's a horrible and strange experience to go through. It's some Zen stuff really. Gotta grow from it. Move in a new direction. It's hard.

Yeah, fuckin computers. I woke up the other day and my iPhone wasn't working. No morning alarm and a sinking feeling in my gut that I overslept where the first signs that something was off.
