Lyricism . Discussion

Post by THEGREAT »

I know this is SP Forums .just trynna expand on other topics outside making beats.

what makes a good lyricist . Period . Hip Hop . Rock . Soul . the list goes on

..

Vocabulary is a big deal . it's easy to fall into the trap of using generic words

also phrasing in terms of s personalised way of formatting the structure of the lines within a song . It's such an open discussion

Any thoughts?

I wouldn't stress on vocabulary too much, simple words for a complex idea is usually key for good lyrics. You'll just sound like a textbook if you get too crazy with vocabulary. Redman is remembered than Keith Murray for a reason.

Keep it simple but maintain the image going into the people's minds. You are not writing to yourself but to many types of people of different backgrounds and lives and different intelligence. The more you reach out to, the better.

Cool topic

Lyrics are art like painting an empty canvas. It’s all about each individuals journey while listening no matter how you say it.

I like DOOM's lyricism. The way he says things, the way he turns a phrase. I often find myself still piecing together what he said a few lines back.

Someone else I like outside of hip hop is JD McPherson. The stuff on his first two albums aren't complex, but they just work (both lyrics and guitar solos). I don't know about his latest album, but I really like his first one.
