the 505 pads suck for doing rolls. What I did when I had a 555 was Id have 2-4 kicks, 3 snares, 2-3 closed hats and a couple other random things. But the trick is to get multiples of the same drum so u can do more rolls and double hits and things.

you can spin the wheel while hitting high hats , to get cool velocity shifting .
not sure what you mean here... the wheel during the record pattern messes with the quantize.... you mean jog it back and forth? just spinning it would turn quantize off... anyway, I'll try that. Thanks
