Samples from Compact Flash to SP-404?

Hi, long-time reader and occasional owner of sp-404 whenever I can afford it.
I've got back to grips with using this machine pretty quickly but I'm having problems getting samples from compact flash to the sample banks.
I have followed page 38 of the manual (and bits of 39) without any luck. When I hold [cancel] and press [resample] nothing seems to happen..
The card is formatted etc and I am dragging samples into the root file (44.1 sample rate, 16 bit), but I'm not 100% what the missing link is..
Any help is really appreciated, especially if I'm making a stupid mistake!

does it have something to do with how you're naming the samples? haven't done a card import in a while but that may or may not matter

In case this is ever useful for anyone, I was using a cf flash card above 1gb. As soon as I used a new card under 1gb, the sp functioned as usual. Seems that I was only able to format the old card, but sp couldn't read or import any files from incompatible cf card..

sp 404 is limited to 1gb cards... the 606 is limited to 512 for whatever reason...
look for cheap cf cards :p
