can't decide between the original 404 and SX

Post by Mr. Davenport »

From everything I've read in the previous threads I still can't decide which one to get. What is the deciding factor when it comes down to it?

most people say the OG sounds better. SX has better storage with the SD card though.

I've gotten the impression that OG has Vinyl comp (although not like the 303). And the SX being newer has faster processing.

Whether you can try them both before you buy one or not.

If you plan to do beats on the pattern mode the SX would be better because
of the pattern copy function. I'd love to have that on my OG...

I've never owned a 404/404SX before, but I would assume they are pretty much the same, except with different storage options. If you pick up the original, the memory cards seem easy enough to get. (This could change in a few years time, but who can say?). Getting the 404sx just means you're not going to have problems finding the simm cards in your local area.

It's up to you, but I'd maybe pick the SX.

the only reason id prefer the OG would just be for the vinyl sim compression and overall sound quality.

The SX being faster makes it better to me. I also like the FX lay out on the SX more than the OG.

Instead of the SX I bought the original (limited black and orange) and also a Korg Micro Sampler. I think that's a decent compromise.

It's all good. Let us know when you make some beats with them!

Will do. Can't wait. I'm actually more excited about the microsampler.

^^ Good choices! I bought the microsampler late last year and it's absolutely KILLER. The only thing that would've made it better would be a card slot. Also, the OG 404 I believe is far superior to SX.... I bought an SX recently but sold it a week later... it was very fast, cool that you didn't need to export... but the shortcomings with the FX and resampling noise artifacts to me were inexcusable.

Yeah I'm happy with my decision. The micro sampler hasn't arrived yet but so far I'm enjoying the 404. I have a feeling I'm gonna have a lot of fun with the two paired up.
