tough choice bewtween yucca and rockysullivan.

yucca had me trippin out, could picture myself walkin into some weird ass light store with this playing in the background (sorta like this, http://rocknrollghost.com/wp-content/up ... 65x374.jpg )

really unique sounding for sure

rockysullivan really had me at the part around the 1 minute mark. some real vibes that have my body swaying back n forth. i feel that so hard.

im gonna have to go with rockysullivan. simply beautiful.

fantastic work by everyone, was happy to participate in this.

CHOPPERMAN: This one had me vibing hard. I felt like I was in France walking in some dark alley way with a bottle of whiskey in one hand and a beautiful chica around my other.

RAK: You picked some killer chops and made a masterpiece big ups to you, bro. This one was terrific. Nice work!

YUCCA: Nice work here also. RIP NATE DOGG! I kinda would liked a change up but still real dope stuff!

LOWCOST: This one I think is another masterpiece. A job well done, my friend. Excellent chops and drum sample choices. This is real good stuff! You killed it!!

OTBT: I think a few our beats here sounded like they could be the background music to a FILM or something. I think this one the most could be on a movie! Not that thats a bad I love this one. I really wanted to use the acoustic guitar sample but couldn't get something going!! it sounds like you did and DID FINE JOB!! The drum beat is KILLER too! nice work!

JANGLESOUL: I think this one was super lo fi with the cassette bouncing really good work! Keep it up, you're doing great if you're just learning!

SAYEE: another lo fi submission, the drums are killer on this one!

IN HAZE: Nice work here, bro. Some mellow stuff! DUDE, and thank you for my first VOTE in a SPBB !! IM STOKED !!! !! ! ! SUPER STOKED! thanks again

SLEEPS NUMB This one was killer too. Some trippy effects on top of your chops! DIG!!!!!

Some tuff tuff choices to make! All great submissions! hmmmmmm

CHOPPERMAN gots my vote!! OTBT you were a close 2nd for my vote.

EXCELLENT WORK GUYS! LETS KEEP IT GOING!

Chopperman: Cool lazy vibe. Nice stereo - call/response with the horns/sirens. I appreciate that there's different parts - part A, part B, back to part A etc - makes for good variety!

RAK: Love the dreamy chords that opens, like floating into some ocean. Great beat, cool sub bass. You always have a great variety in your tracks, and a real songlike structure.

Yucca: Crazy, seasick vibe. Is that Voice Transform on the percussion? Cool beat, but i think I'd prefer the beat without Nate Dogg. I'm not sure he matches the pitch/key of the sounds.

Rockysullivan: A lot of interesting sounds, dreamy vibe.

Lowcost: Really cool! Massive sound.

OTBT: I found this musical and pleasant to the ears. An engaging beat and how the drums picked-up after that reversed cymbal was really nice!

Sayee: Lofi for sure! Lots of different cool parts.

InHaze/Paoloactual: Cool with the thunder, there's a nice airiness to this beat.

Sleeps numb: Good, steady beat and I enjoy how the various melodies weaves into each other, talking voices in the distance - great depth to the sound!

Lots of cool stuff going on in all beats, so I'll try to listen closely and pick up a few tricks. Raw lofi is cool but a bit grinding on the ears sometime. I tend to favor the sweet sounds. Chopperman, OTBT and RAK were my favorites this time - the vote goes to RAK that I find especially inspiring.

Hey guys!
Very cool and unusual stuff from everyone!
Big up to Sleeps Numb for the samples, really enjoyed putting those together.
My favs in this one are Chopperman, Rak, RockySullivan (the second part was crazy!) Janglesoul (chilly stuff) LowCost & Sayee (liked the low pitched vocals).
Voted Yucca, the way that the acapella fits to the beat was amazing!

Chopperman - Smooth groove. Puts me right on the beach at sunest.
Rak - Puts me right on the beach in the afternoon.
Yucca - invaded my dreams and pulled out what i hear when i'm sleeping.
Rocky Sullivan - Motionless music...can you get colder? Probably not without submitting a track of complete silence.
L0WC0ST - interesting rhythms. Feels like being trapped inside the space behind an HBO logo.
obt - Silent Hill took my soul.
janglesoul - dusk over future city...something special is happening tonight, we're just waiting for it and we don't know what it is.
SAYEE - 70s space anime attacks!
in haze - a long walk through an impossibly long hallway with no exits and very few can lights sprinkled down it.
Sleeps Numb - Can't seem to navigate my way through this hall of mirrors.

I won't publicly announce who I voted for but that person has a like from me on their track now so they know who they are. :)

Sup y'all? here are my comments:

Chopperman - The contrast between the sub and the tiny percussion is interesting.. Is that you beat boxing?

rak - yeeeeeeeeuh. am feeling diss. #madproper deng that change up!! where's the DL link??

yucca - ummmmm... <_<;

RockySullivan - I'm already wearing headphones so... This is pretty abstract.

L0WC0ST - This is hot! Friggin nuts! @_@

otbt - This was pretty enjoyable, hauntingly beautiful.

janglesoul - Thanks for the warning! I dig that you described your production technique, my only issue with it is the volume of the track.

SAYEE - fuckkk, the low fidelity is strong in this ONE! ohhhhh, it's a 202 track.. NAICE.

in haze - interesting intro, i'm digging these chill vibes. it could use some sub bass imo.

Sleeps numb - i like these drums, they sound familiar...

Good job everybody! It's always cool to hear these tracks.

MY VOTE GOES FOR RAK

Chopper> digging the tide pool blunt sesh moment of clarity aesthetic that flows thru the intro and first part. Drums sound super natural and fit the track well. Like how you used a grip of the sample pack and mixed up the sample choices throughout the track.

RAK> This beat is fucking filthy. Reminds me of taking too many painkillers and floating the day away when i broke my ribs. Best bass of the battle imo maybe for the second week in a row. Dirty Drums swinging all over the place. Dig how you always use a variety of the Sp effects.

yucca> Blacked out bar Señora searching soundtrack. Bass and sea sick pitching mixed with the sweet voice of Nate Dog chopped to perfection was a sweet mind trip. Crazy sound shaping on the drums, took a pretty limited palette and tripped them out nicely, especially dug the pitched percussion.

Rocky Sullivan> Nice use of the variety of samples. Cool experimental dark LOFI vibes. Like how the drums change throughout the track. Pretty sleepy in a good way. Second part is ill. Might be my shitty speaker but mix seems a little off.

LOWCOST> Think you just raped my speakers. This shit is fucking loud, but i can dig it  . Greasy SP Lofi TEAM CANADUH vibes all over the place. Short and sweet. Second part shines. Good shit

OTBT> You got some DJ Shadow type style doing here. Irie intro was cool, builds up suspense before the trip hoppy drums drop super hard. Great variety to your chops. Extra points for being the only one to use the weird Tribal voice thing as percussion. Mix sounds super legit and pro, could be a car commercial (in a good way). Liked how you used a lot of the samples in the pack.

Jangle soul > Wow maybe this is what is good acid like. Super Psychedelic Loungey Vibes. Feel like I'm in a "Amsterdam Coffee Shop" after a couple of space cakes. Laid back drums fit the track well. Really like how the French samples flows in and out. Great use of all the SP effects man! Chops were ill. Great job using a lot of the samples in the pack. Like the kinda LOFI Reverby Dub thing going on.

SAYEE> Wow, props on the sample freakage. Turned some New Age into some Chiptuney chops in the beginning and masked the samples crazy. Reminds me of PAC MAN Getting krunk in da CLUB in some alternate reality. Dig the progression of samples throughout the song. Unmistakably RAW and SP with that TEAM CANADUH stylee.

In Haze> Cool out of the box intro. Like the live drumming sound of the pads. Irie beach blanket banger summer storm. Super mellow with nice pace to the track. Cool live feel to the drums. Stoney little medley.

Crazy battle. Really like all the variety in the tracks. You cats set the bar high this round. It was cool hosting you allz. Kinda of embarrassed of my sloppy last minute beat with all the joints this week. Ill Try to bring my A game next week. :?

Tough to make a decision this week, but I'm going to go with RAK

Wow! Thanks, I'm honoured. :D
I just made both my versions (Dolby C with or without) available for download.

My technique this round was basically endlessly resampling while reducing the BPM rate every time. Then I went crazy with Filter/Drive. When you max the settings the filter starts to self oscillate. What happens is that the screaming notes that feedback will be harmonics to the cutoff frequency. So I resampled a few times while turning knobs (both fast and slow). Probably ran them reversed through filter as well, not that it made any difference. Chopped up the the parts that seemed most melodic, and gave them a healthy dose of Tape echo.

I have been reading a lot of Brian Eno lately. Stuff like "honour thy mistake as a hidden intention" etc. So instead of trying to redo when I accidently hit some wrong button I tried to make the error work. Which was a pretty fast and inspiring workflow. Instead of "control" I chose "surrender", in Eno-words.

Thanks again - and happy smoking!
